They’re not stamped with a name but probably the same manufacturer as the headunit which I believe is Panasonic.

I replaced the dash and front door speakers with infinity and the head unit with an alpine. I’ll do the rears next year and probably add an amp. It’s been worth it to me so far. There are many options that get you to a better place, sonically.

That's where mine went. I felt a little bad, but it seemed like the appropriate place for them.

I removed the guts from the dash speakers and used the frames as brackets for the tweeters. Worked pretty well!

You never really know how terrible they are, until you yank them out! The replacements weigh about a pound more!

Not sure but it kills me they use an odd resistance speaker-makes upgrading a pain in the rump.

Here's a pic of the oem speaker. Made entirely of single piece molded plastic. Magnet about an inch in diameter and might weight an ounce. Total speaker weight is only a few ounces.

    That is the back.

Front looks like normal cheap speaker with a paper cone.

I mostly listen to talk radio, which makes speaker quality largely unimportant. Right now I throw in a little Christmas music, which also doesn't require much. I'm good.

In 50 years of driving, I've never replaced a factory system unless one quit. Probably not going to start now.

I don't recall what the impedance was, but I swapped the front door speakers for JL C1-690's and haven't had any issues. They've been in there almost 4 years now.

Front doors and dash are 4 ohm wired parallel. Rear doors and hatch are 2 ohm wired in series

I just have the rear hatch pair to replace now and wonder how much investment is worth putting into those. My understanding is that the hatch only add to the overall soundstage but you can’t hear much from them (many people outright disconnect them). However, I want a pair that can stand in their own if I adjust the sound centering all the way to the back and do a tailgate party. I’m looking into Pioneer component products (without using the tweeters).

I would get a better sounding bluetooth speaker for that. Turtlebox, JBL, Bose, Diamondbox, Soundbocks...

Those Bose portable speakers are the tits.

Plus you don't run down your car battery.

I have to say I don’t understand. The Bluetooth speakers are portable? Or installed into the hatch? And how is the BY signal transmitted? The head unit doesn’t emit an outward BY signal, then I have to use my music sourAce parallel BT connection?

Yes, something like this: https://www.bose.com/p/speakers/bos...PEAKERWIRELESS_color=CYPRESS GREEN&quantity=1

You use your phone via Bluetooth, or sometimes they have an aux port for your iPod, whatever. The car is not involved.

Oh ok, so it’s just a stand alone Bt speaker, so when I use it in the car, I’ll just use it and the other car speakers won’t be able to sync with it while being played from the car head unit…

Don't know about the standard audio system but it should say something to you that on my JBL equipped truck ALL the drivers went to the trash....despite being labeled JBL......pure rubbish. The Panasonic head unit can be retained for a great sounding audio system but you have to defeat all the factory "tuning" with a DSP so you can them amp the signals for truly satisfying sound. The 4Runner makes for a great listening environment but you have to replace some speakers, install a good amp and a DSP to extract the best from the Panasonic HU.
