    Hello all,

I am new-ish to the Toyota family and my 4runner was bought a completely stock vehicle. It is a base model SR5 and so far I have given her tint, ceramic coat, rubber/spray painted the chrome on the side-steps. I am not a bi fan of chrome and want to delete all of it on the interior and exterior. My next step is getting a 2 or 3 inch lift, and getting some blacked out rims, also looking for a more aggressive tire.

Please show me your favorite mods on your 5th gen! I need ideas for what to do next on mine!

“What are the best mods”. Perhaps this is not the most productive question. A better one might be “How shall I tailor my vehicle to best suit my needs?” Everyone has different wants, and the various decisions may involve compromises. Let me ask you - how are you intending to use your vehicle? Are you modifying for enhanced capability? Or to convey a certain attitude? Both are perfectly valid but might require different solutions..

One of my favorite mods was adding interior storage with the pouches from 4runnerlifestyle Link. I did change out the velcro for heavier weight rated strips from lowes/Home Depot.

Welcome and the captan here is right! We all use our vehicles in different ways. If you are an offroad aficionado,, well, the sky is the limit. If you are a weekend warrior, and city person, then you have choices as well. The idea is to enjoy the mod and that you truly use it or maybe like many of us here, we enjoy looking at it and can't find time to use it. Enjoy the ride!

I would first recommend swapping the side mirrors for the blind spot mirrors from earlier RAV4s. 1 minute install, and much safer driving experience.

Hurray for Captain Spaulding! Spend some time thinking of what you’re going to do with the truck.

There are lots of costly, cool mods that make total sense in some context, but do you really need them for your use case?

For someone’s first foray into off-road activity, I’d invest in some AT tires keeping the same size and wheels. See where that takes you. Take a local off road driving class. Learn how to use the features of the truck.

With some experience you’ll have a clearer idea of what your next steps should be.

    Welcome and enjoy your truck!
    Cheers
    Mike

Dash mount and extra chargers. Plastic insert for door cubby so your stuff doesn't fall out. Cup holder extension so cup next to center console isn't buried down deep.

Here’s a few that are kind of generic, meaning whatever your use they’re good options.

Husky Liner floor mats and cargo mat
    Bug deflector
    Interior LED lights
    LED backup lights
Screen protector for the entertainment system head
    Seat Jackers
    RAV 4 blind spot mirrors
    Glovebox organizer
    Center console tray

There’s lots more but these are a start. Look around and you’ll find links to all of them. That’s how I found them. Welcome to the forum.

    Best mods..

Eibach or 5100 shocks. Gets rid of the awful body roll and brake drive...

Tune.. yeah a lot of people are on the fence about it, but there are plenty of reviews. Kd max. Yotawerx, ott. It really helps with low end.

Obviously "best" is pretty subjective. But the OP actually asked what our "favorite" mods were.

Personally, my favorite is probably my fishing rod rack, or ditch lights.

Best single mod for off-roading would be armor (for me).

My favorite first mods were neoprene center console lid cover, center console organizer tray, front and rear seat covers, cargo area cover, and vent visors. I would also add WeatherTech floor mats to that, I bought my 4R used and luckily it came with the full set.

Lifts and all that are cool, but those little things just make it better to live with on a daily basis.

Your fishing rod rack is nice... for those of us that go fishing, it's not mandatory, but, sure helps out in the tangling. Some of the best mods?? I would say the mods that can easily be returned to 'stock', most mods can be returned to stock, but easily would be my take on it. Good luck, have fun with it. And BTW, welcome from Wisconsin!

If I could go back to start in order of how I would mod I would do the following in this order:
    • Suspension
    • Tires & rims
    • Skid plate
    • Dash mounting rack (ICS)
    • Dashcam
    • 2nd battery (inside set up for LiFePO4)
    • SwitchPro w/mounting plate
    • Front bumper w/20” lightbar amber
    • Roof rack & ladder
    • Speakers
For accessories, not sure why people call them mods:
    • Weathertech floor mats
    • Husky hatch area mat
    • Canvas back 2nd row seats
    • Caliraised molle panels for hatch area, with upper shelf

Here's our rig on the left, somewhat of a "super-stock" build on 33's, compared with a stock TRD offroad on the right.

    Favorite mods:
    • 5th gen 4runner center vent phone mount from ProClip. (Bit pricey, but magnetic mounts tend to fly off, off-road.)
    • MarlinCrawler Tacobox (we've barely tapped into the capability this offers. Love that it's basically a bolt-on mod)
    • Warn Semi-hidden winch mount (inexpensive via Amazon, in-stock, low profile, very, very stout after testing in Moab on the trail)
    • Warn M8000 winch (Classic, reliable, tough)
    • Under-hood Hidden winch controller connection (simple bracket to mount extended remote-control connector that came with Warn Winch mount)
    • Dobinson's HD suspension (simple, strong, flexible, trouble-free)
    • Frontrunner roof rack. (Light-weight, strong, infinitely adjustable, great menu of accessories (have an awning, hi-lift mounts and Maxtrax mounts up there full time)
    • Victory4x4 Strike rear bumper (you can get just the rear bumper, and then add-on swingaways later)

I guess by this logic, a lot of the things listed are accessories. Roof racks, ladders, sliders, skids, molle panels...

Two of my favorites so far:

    * Driver's side A-pillar grab handle;
    * 1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers (will require fender liner adjustments and some minor trimming).

Eh, either way both are things that you spend money on to customize the vehicle to your needs. Whether you literally bolt them on or not.

Agree with everyone that mentions the organization mods. Let’s face it, no matter what you use your t4r for you’re definitely gonna use the center console and glove box. Included below are the Amazon links to what I got on mine.
