Weatherstrip/Weatherseal Conditioner Suggestions

Hey all.
I hope everyone's year is starting off groovy. I for one am amazed that January is almost over.
Anyway..... I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a weather strip/weather seal conditioner.
I have a power sunroof and it doesn't leak, seals great, but at the same time it IS over 20 years old, and the last five of those before I got a hold of it was sitting in the Nevada desert.
So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good conditioning product to keep it going.
As always, any input is much appreciated.

 

I use this. Works great.

 

Don't get that stuff, buy some silicon spray. It works just as well with the gaskets and is more useful.

I used the stuff in the photo above because my doors froze shut at night, and it failed to stop it, but the silicon spray did.

 

That's good feedback. I live in Texas so I dont have to deal with freezing Temps too often.

 

I use Vaseline. The stuff just soaks right in, and doesn't freeze. Keeps the rubber preserved. I use it on many things rubber. O-rings, gaskets, vacuum hose connections, water hose connections, you name it.

"Lubricate a rubber
It is common to hear that coating a rubber with a greasy substance such as oil or petroleum jelly makes it more flexible. This seemingly logical gesture should be avoided at all costs! In the short term the rubber will soften and gain flexibility, but in the long run the lubricant will attack the material. The only rubbers that are resistant to fats and oils are Viton Rubber (FKM) and Nitrile (NBR). If you want to lubricate a rubber to make it slippery during installation, put a drop of dishwashing liquid. This makes the rubber slip without attacking it."

 

I've used Armor-All for 25 years on my '96 Silverado. Weather stripping is still in one piece and doing its' job. Door seals up with zero wind noise. It's applied it 2-4 times a year. I do the same on the 4R. There may be better stuff available now, but use it for 25 years and get back to me.

 

Look into the Vaseline thing. It’s petroleum based and deteriorates o rings, gaskets,rubber and anything not impervious to petroleum based products.
