usbc port to either replace the usb port below stereo, or in center console?

    Two questions:
    1) Can y'all suggest a usbc port that I can install in my 2021 4runner? Not just an adapter, but an actual usbc port that gives the charge power of usbc.

    2) Would I need to run this through a different fuse since I would be providing a little more power to usbc vs regular usb?

    Thanks!
    Jon

First, the USBC port is not going to increase the charge rate provided by the truck's OEM circuit just because you changed the port. Don't expect it to charge at USBC max rate.

Second, the last time I checked, which has been a while, there were no correct harness adapters available for that charge port. When I did a total audio system overhaul in my '20, Metra and others had not yet made the proper adapter harness. That may have changed since, but I've not seen anything about it. You might be able to get an aftermarket USBC port for that location and cut/solder the wires to adapt it - but as above, you're not going to get any more charging capacity than the truck's original circuit will allow.

Toyota has fast-charger USBC cables that go with the optional 2 USB ports that replace the dashboard power outlet. I haven't yet compared whether those USB ports behave differently with the other ones with those cables.

it’s not a matter of power but a matter of proper hardware.

if you want fast charging you need to find something that supports PD (Power Delivery). otherwise as mentioned above it won’t be much better than what’s already in the truck. even with the best cables you’re best would probably be in the 10w to 15w range. lotta work to install something that performs poorly by todays standard.

easier to simply use the 12v outlet and buy the highest PD charger your device can support. PD is a game changer esp if you’re charging from < 5%.

Not sure what other folks are talking about here, but to directly answer your questions the answer is yes. Amazon has the PD outlets, and you’d have to run wire directly to a fuse block. I have a separate fuse block I added when I added my Switch-Pro. Make sure you plan out your power use properly, 60W @ 12v is 5A draw, so use a 7.5A fuse to protect. Personally I would keep the draw less than 5A. The only risk I would call out is power drain from the new port(s) when car is off, and would set it up so it only works when the truck is operating so you don’t accidentally kill your battery. You could do this with a relay, where it engages when it senses the truck is running. The Switch-Pro has this feature to program each of its ports to be live individually for when car is running, a time delay after car turns off, or to be live all the time.
