Upgrading Tires, new 4Runner. Should I replace spare with 5th new wheel and tire?

I'll be getting a 2021 Venture in soon. I want to upgrade to same size A/T tires, Falken or other.
I've always done 5-tire rotations on my 2008 4Runner but that car came with an identical 5th wheel as the spare. I've been told that the 21 spare wheel is not a match for the 4 TRD Black matte wheels on the ground, and that the spare wheel does not have TPMS. Haven't seen the Venture to confirm.
So I'm considering buying a matching TRD alloy wheel and the TPMS system from Toyota and buying 5 A/T tires, so I can continue 5-tire rotations. Is this wise? What do you and most people do? If I just get 4 A/T tires I would do 4-tire rotations, but what problems can come up if I have a flat and need to use that stock Dunlop or Bridgestone highway tire?

Anyone go the matching 5 wheel/5-tire rotation route? Thanks.

I have an SR5, and I bought another wheel so I would have a "same tire" spare. Tire shop put a regular (i.e. old style) valve on the spare. After the 1st (and only, to this point) rotate, the TPMS display doesn't know the difference. I figure doing a 5 tire rotate will get me 20% (25% ?) more milage before I need tires.

Putting a different tire on the front won't do much, if any, damage mechanically in 2WD, but handling/braking could be sketchy. In 4WD your transfer case will hate you.

Different tires in the back may...MAY...tear up the rear diff. A few miles in town will be no big deal, on the hi-way, well...you'll wish you had a "same tire" spare. Handling and braking could be affected also.

Yes any tire will work as your spare as long it is the same size!
As Stoney Ranger said do not run different size tires on your vehicle it will mess a trans and rear end up! Very costly

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin!

I think @Stoney Ranger covered it well.

I have a matching 5th wheel and tire, but don't do 5 tire rotations. I have no real reason not to, though.

One thing to keep in mind is that your spare will get quite dirty if you do any off-roading. Make sure to lower it and clean it after any muddy/dirty driving so that it doesn't look super dirty when you rotate it in.

Hey hey all! Yes, when I upgraded to 285's, i bought a 5th tyre for the spare. Using different sizes of tyres is a big no no for 4wd vehicles. If you are going to upgrade, it's recommended that you do upgrade your spare, or stay out of 4wd mode.

    Cheers,

    Sean

I've always done 5-tire rotations with Jeeps, because, well, that tire is sticking out on the back just asking to go flat if you never use it. The Jeep spare has tpms, so...

When I replace the OEM tires with KO2s next month, I'll probably just get 5 tires and a matching spare rim with TPMS. $$$ :/

It might not be quite as easy for you to pick up a matching 5th wheel but may as well give it a shot, craigslist or facebook market, etc. You can always go the dealer route if you must.

Doing a 5 tire rotation here as well. Just did the first one myself a couple weeks ago. Easy peasy.

I got a new tpms for the spare, but apparently it's not necessary.

I haven't bothered matching the spare or buying it TPMS sensors or adding it to the rotation for about a decade. That's low on my funding priority list.

I do check the spare for decent pressure regularly. Running premium E-Range rubber (KO2s or Michelin LTXs), keeping an eye on them and changing them before tread gets low, it's become many years between road hazards. Didn't used to be that way; I remember doing long trips in India and Africa back in the day, having to stop every hour to let the rubber cool down, and still regular failures, but tires have gotten pretty good. My new vehicles (we run a Tacoma, a T4R, a Tundra, a Wrangler and a big John Deere here) get 4 new tires as soon as I get them.
I have a few times in the past used a spare that's a size or two larger or smaller to get back home without any problems, avoiding 4wd mode on dry or pavement, and even running the offside tires in the dirt. As long as there's some slippage, it's not going to harm anything in a few miles.

Volcanic rock will cut tires. I've gone through more than one KM and KM3 tires with sharp pointy things. YMMV.

We have too, but it's been a while. Sidewalls are the tender spot. When lava chunks stick out from the sides of the road, it's time to slow way down and keep alert.
    Still, &%$@ happens.

Jumping in on this... what is the biggest tires you can fit in the under carriage of the truck? 275? It looks pretty tight with the 265 on there now. If not, what is everyone doing with the spare? running in the back or on top? Thanks!
