    Hi fellow 4Runner friends.

I'm just starting out with learning the ins and outs of vehicles, be patient with me please!

I recently bought a 2021 4Runner Nightshade Limited. I'm looking at a couple upgrades and customizations.

I want to do a cold air intake, but do I go with an oiled one or a dry one? Its been recommended for me to go with the air raid MXP series. Thoughts?

I'm also looking at rain/wind guards, any brand recommendations?

What other must have upgrades are there?

You already have a cold air intake. The inlet on the original factory airbox is outside of the engine compartment.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

First off, welcome! We're glad to have you here. Hopefully you aren't a Buc's fan. (blech)

Next, here are a few websites that you can peruse for add-on's, accessories and upgrades:

    https://www.etsy.com/search?q=2021 Toyota 4Runner&ref=search_bar
    https://www.4runnerlifestyle.com/?g...63QCD5Kc_z88ErkhIG3seF8TPo9ino0RoCcisQAvD_BwE
    https://www.amazon.com/s?k=2021+toy...ta+4Runner,aps,171&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_2_19

Now then, about that cold air intake....it's worthless. It will not improve your performance or gas mileage at all. Oh, please show us pictures of your new ride. We'd love to see it!

I was told the air raid ones are better quality and I should go with an aftermarket, is that not correct?

With your hood open, looking at the airbox, you will see that the inlet is in the right wheel well.

Not a sports fan in general no worries there!

Thanks for sharing some links! I'll be browsing! I've got some lights being installed today so new pictures will be coming.

Toyota puts a lot of R&D into the intake on these. You're not going to get better performance out of ANY aftermarket product. You might get more sound. That is all. As far as filters go, stay away from oiled filters. You're asking for trouble with the MAF sensor. Toyota OEM filters are going to give you all the performance you need. If you truly want more performance, install a Magnuson or TRD supercharger.

That's good to know. I don't really want to lose any gas mileage so not for performance, also not interested in making it louder. Other than the dinky sounding horn! Sounds like no reason to spend money on an intake. Thanks for saving me a few bucks! Guess I'll continue reading the forums for ideas of what to put it toward instead.

Welcome. And your air box is fine. If you want the cai experience, just replace the intake tube with a solid one without the resonator. K&N and HPS make them.

If you want to spend the cash, there's a lot of vids on the tube of you to check out. I don't have experience with full 4runner cai systems.

It's your money and ride. Deck it out the way you want to.

Welcome. The 4Runner engine works very well for what it is. If your goal is to increase performance, the only significant way to boost power reliably is with forced induction like a supercharger which is pretty expensive. Outside of that any gains will be minimal.

These folks were able to shave off 2.8 seconds off their 0-60 in a 2001 Nissan Sentra with nothing but weight reduction! ;)

Who wants to drive the first convertible 5th-gen 4Runner? Maybe it'll be a hit with the Murano Cross-Cabriolet demographic.

K, that made me smile. I've never seen weight reduction to that extreme!
