Since my initial post, I decided user oktom was right to suggest taking the south route. My goal cities to stop in are Nashville, Austin, Tucson, SD, LA, SF and Oakland. Since SF is only about an hour or so from Santa Rosa, I may skip that on the way. I can always go there for a weekend. My plan is to leave early morning Dec 21st. I need to be in Santa Rosa no later than Jan 2nd, which leaves me with 10-11 days to get out there. If you have suggestions on things to see or places to eat in those areas, let me know. I'm always down to meet up with anyone who wants to.

My last post about this, user MeefZah gave me a lot of suggestions on things to see along the way. Some I will stop at on the way and others will be for my trip back to Pa in June. I haven't figured out the details, but I'll go back Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. After that, no clue yet

if you are going to SF in your ride. The best view of the city, really the whole bay, is just on the north side of the Golden Gate bridge.

aaand the muir woods (where they filmed ewok scene in star wars) is right there and cool to see but you need to buy tickets in advance. Currently due to covid if you want to do anything in CA check first to see if advance tickets are required because thats an easy way for these places to control the crowds.

That's some beautiful scenery right there. I like to eat at mom and pop places. Have any suggestions?

I mean, theres a million restaraunts and its hard to say whats closed permanently or finally open again due to covid. Most things are currently take out only. Id have to think on that and look and get back to you.

Off the top of my head

Caffe Sport on Green street in SF is my favorite italian seafood place.
House of Prime Rib is my favorite restaraunt in the city but currently closed.
R&G lounge in SF is really good chinese and a somewhat famous place (not mom and pop)

Locally caught Dungeness Crab will be in season when you get here.

I wish I could take a drive like this but my 7 month old would have something to say about that.

I'll be headed through the TAT on my way back from the Keys to Austin later this month. When are you planning on traveling? If within this month, we should link up on your way West. I'm sure with COVID and being a stranger would sway you in the opposite direction but, my trip will happen regardless who is around :)

We don't have kids and I have an incredibly supportive wife.

Sounds like I'll be eating some delicious food when I'm in that area!

I'm not leaving until Dec 21st. If you live in Austin, I'd meet up when I come through. Edit: so that would be around Christmas Eve or so

Also since you are coming from the south you need to make a detour to yosemite national park, If you come this far I dont know how you can come to CA and not see it. (advance tickets required and book them soon if you do go even for december)

Since I will be in Santa Rosa for about 6 months, I was going to go to Yosemite on a weekend or make it a stop on my way back home. Same with Lake Tahoe

I remembered a mom and pop place that has awesome breakfasts. Its in Berekeley so watch out for hippies blindly crossing the street. (no seriously though)
