Well had it happen This weekend driving down the highway and "WACK" a spider-web crack in my windshield that quickly (within an hour) spread out maybe 5 inches. Any do's/don'ts from people that have been there and had their windshield replaced? Calling insurance and probably JN Phillips (Mass) in the next couple days. I've had good luck with them in the past.

Make sure they give you Toyota oem. Safelight tried an off brand and the optics looking right or left distorted the vision. One call to the insurance agent direct to say it was an unsafe condition scored me an oem windshield

I changed some lights, tires and tinted windows...mind blowing huh
I had safelite change mine with the non Toyota one, so far no issues. The OEM one would have been like $400 more

Just picked up 4Runner from getting the frame fixed, driving back on the highway and WHAM. Scared the crap out of me. Wife was driving behind me and said it was a piece of tire that came off the overpass. Glad it didn't go through.

Spoke with Insurance I do not believe I have coverage that allows OEM replacement and if it's hundreds of dollars more just for a little emblem that says "Toyota" screw that. The woman said other than after market changes I may have made to it it'll look like what's there now same tinting or whatever.

    Stewtopia - That really sucks!!

This is why I keep a $0 deductible on comprehensive coverage...never know when something is going to hit you. Fight for the OEM replacement.

I have 0 out of pocket also but you need some other kind of replacement coverage or something. I'll speak to the glass company when they call but again I'm not sweating it real bad either. It isn't the couple hundred dollars actually but every September house insurance comes in and also three vehicles. In another month that'll be right around a $4,500 - $5,000 nut to pay.

If your happy with the replacement, keep it. Does it have the wiper blade heaters built in?
If your not happy tell your insurance you don't pay for generic insurance so you don't want fake glass. Sorry it bothers me what insurance companies do. Someone's building those big shiney buildings for them

Not sure who your insurance company is but I can't just call mine and "tell" them their paying for OEM glass when my policy doesn't allow it not really sure anybody can.

My best friend's father growing up was an insurance companies V.P. for many years. I don't claim to know insurance but surely picked up my share of pointers just listening to their "round table talk" when I was at his house. Their not just throwing that bone to people who ask it's baked into the cost somewhere I'll guarantee you that...Or...It's specifically called out in your policies fine print. State Farm insures hundreds of thousands of people (probably millions) throughout the country they do not simply throw everyone that benefit upon request. No agent you speak to when you call with a claim is authorized to "give" 1.00 more in benefits than you have coming. Also, my last insurer in Mass automatically installed OEM glass in vehicles under a certain amount of miles I want to say like 15,000 or close to that.
