So, I should be getting my 21 TRD Off Road this week and I plan on sticking better tires on it ASAP. But, I am having a hard time figuring out if some of my ideas will rub or not.

I think I want to move the wheels out just a little so they aren't tucked in the fenders so much (I like the stance much better) it's my understanding that I can do that with some TRD Pro wheels or Spacers (SpiderTrax 1.5 inch) or even both. However I am thinking about going to 275's and worry either of them will cause rubbing without a lift (it'll be a year or so before I can lift it probably).

Ideally, I would run the factory wheels with spacers and the 275's. Second preference would be stock size 265's with the spacer (I like the regular TRD wheels for some reason...) Third would be TRD Pro wheels with the 275's. Last would be Pro with stock size.

If all the above ideas rub except for the 275's and stock wheels I may just do that till I can get a lift under it.

I have done quite a bit of research on spacers so no need to go down that rabbit hole here. But, I figured I would share my thoughts with you folks and see if anyone can shed some light for me. If all the above ideas rub except for the 275's and stock wheels I may just do that till I can get a lift under it.

    None yet. Rock rails ASAP.
Ditto to all. I really really want to replace tires but won’t be able to lift for a while due to $ and don’t want to invest in tires that will rub and require lift. May have to do it all at once in a year or two.

The 275’s with OR wheels should be fine. The spacers could cause some rubbing.

The Off-Road wheels are actually better for oversized tires because they're wider than the PRO wheels.

With 1.5" spacers and even stock size tires, you might rub slightly on the fender liner and possibly the mudflaps. These are easy fixes.

Fyi, lift does not clear tires. Alignment and trimming are the only ways to clear larger tires. Lift will make them rub less often, but they'll still run when compressed.

That was my understanding on the wheels as well and part of why I prefer to just run those.

I guess, I could always go with the 275's and get the spacers on Amazon and try it and if they don't work out. Well, Amazon returns are pretty simple.

275's + spacers will be fine with a bit of trimming. You may get by with a good alignment and a fender liner mod.

Forget the spacers, that's my vote.

So, following up on this thread, can I replace the wheels and tires on my off road premium with the TRD Pro wheels and tires?

You can. Have a friend with a TRD ORP who got some take-offs from a TRD Pro with the stock Nitto Terra Grappler G2's and the only thing he had to do was the fender liner mod (on the TRD Pro, I believe the techs do that at the port).

Thank you. As for the fender liner mod - I am wondering why that is needed. The articles I have read seem to require this when a larger wheel size is added. The trd off road premium and trd pro use the same wheel size - 265/70/17. Am I missing something here?

Trd off road premium wheel is 7.5 in width vs Trd pro & SR5 has 7in wide wheels.

If you want to go for bigger tires like 285/70R17 you need minimum TRD Offroad wheels. Else look at good aftermarket wheel.

Stock with 265s and spacers will clear ( w/ PRO wheels, I've done it.). Anything over that WITH spacers will likely rub ( front fender liner or mud flap). With that said, two words...dremel + caster ;)

I believe the Toyota TRD Pro wheels have a different offset as well. Our TRD Off Road wheels are a +15mm offset, and the TRD Pro wheels (in addition to being 1/2" smaller in width) are a +4mm offset (11mm / .45in. difference)
