Hi, I recently bought myself a 1996 toyota 4runner SR5 manual and ive been having some issues with it. At first it ran and worked fine, but a couple days after buying I started having trouble getting into gear. It would only happen occasionally on a cold start and after starting the car and warming it up it doesnt have any issues. I checked the slave cylinder and it was completely dry outside and inside the boot, so no leak there. I noticed the fliud in the slave cylinder reservoir was a little low. So I topped it off and bled the slave cylinder. This fixed it for a couple of days but last night I went to start it up and again i couldnt put it into gear.

I dont think its a synchro issue either becasuse I also get grinding when trying to put it into reverse. Im going to check the transmission fluid today to see if its low on that.

The previous owner also told me that he put a brand new clutch in it like 500 miles ago. So i dont believe its a worn clutch either

Would be great if anyone could help me out. I really want to get this car into working shape and turn it into a camper for when im in school in colorado in the coming years.

    Thanks!

Dont know if this is worth mentioning or not. But ive noticed that mostly when i experience the issue at its worse, its night time out or cold.

Update: fixed the issue, turned out that the spring on my clutch pedal would slip off if i stopped the car with the clutch in. So it wouldnt full come out and then in turn when i went to start the car again the clutch was starting from a lower point and couldnt fully depress the slave cylinder. As long as I turn the engine off without the clutch in or just pull up on the clutch pedal to reingage the spring it all works fine. Old truck personality ill call it.
