I have a 2019 4runner OR. Thinking of putting a TRD skid plate on it. Does the TRD skid plate allow you to access the oil filter without removing the plate?

It does not. I'm thinking of getting one too. Partially because I like the way it looks, partially because it's just a single piece to remove, in order to access the oil filter rather than the 2 pieces we have to remove for the stock skid plate.

Rci skids are cool and they have a filter door to change oil.

I wish that RCI skid would stop being waved around...that thing is nice, and I have a hard time keeping from buying one...

I have the aluminum rci skid plate, I recommend you get the rci filler plate with it as well. It does have the door for the oil filter when you do oil changes but I found it way easier just to drop the entire skid plate, it's not that heavy at all or all that time consuming

The aluminum RCI skid plate looks terrific in the photo above, but if you look at their website aluminum is “raw metal“. Curious if someone has one in aluminum and if it comes rough, or has a nice polished look like in the photo? By the way they are 15% off now.

I wondered that also. What would be involved in clear coating (or painting black, since they only offer the fill plate in black) that if it was raw aluminum?

I'm not positive, but I think the "raw aluminum" looks like that in the photo. The whole point of the aluminum is so that you don't have to powder-coat it since aluminum doesn't rust like steel, plus it's lighter weight.

IIRC, RCI, CBI, and now C4Fab all offer nice looking skids that have oil change access doors. Probably others, too.

I remember someone on here got a raw aluminum skid- maybe Victory? It looked pretty bad- discolored areas and grind marks. In that case it was truly raw.

I just ordered a TRD skid plate from Sparks a few minutes ago for $298.80. I was im a hurry and didn't notice until after I placed the order that shipping was $263.93 :eek:!! Needless to say that order will be canceled Monday morning.

So I canceled my Sparks order and went through another online part dealer, $276.39 skid plate with $53.31 shipping $329.70 total. I still can't believe that Sparks had charged me $263.93 just for shipping.
