From what I understand, the Fox shocks need servicing (seals / oil / etc.) at regular intervals. I think I heard about 50k was the longest they could go and it depended on usage.

Since the shocks are a couple grand, I imagine nobody just replaces them that often. So that leads me to believe that everyone either has it done or ignores it.

To those that have it done, how does that work? Truck gets put up on a lift at the shop and they send them out.... shocks come back a few weeks later and the truck was in the shop the whole time? Or can dealers rebuild them right then and there?

You’re thinking of a coilover. As far as I know the shocks that come on the pros aren’t coilovers so eventually they’ll just go out and need replacing. But yes, high end coilovers or any coilovers for the matter are rebuilt and the mileage depends on how they’re used. You can totally get 50k out of coilovers before a rebuild is needed, but that would be mostly street use from what I’ve read. Normal range with off-road use is 30k-40k miles.
in short, no the pros won’t need the shocks to be rebuilt as I think they’re non-serviceable. I don’t think I’ve ever seen non-coilover suspension be able to be rebuilt.

Where are you reading that the TRD Pro FOX shocks are serviceable? The fact that replacing shocks on the TRD Pro costs over two grand, and re-build isn't an option (AFAIK), is one of the biggest disadvantages of that setup in my eyes.

There is what appears to be a "service port" toward the bottom of the front shocks, at least, but I haven't heard anything about rebuilding them so I assumed that they are in fact not serviceable. That said, every other shock that FOX makes is serviceable.. so maybe they in fact are? A call to FOX would be my next step.

IF they are serviceable... there are a few ways it can be done. Sure, if you have a competent shock mechanic near you, I imagine they could complete the job in a day or so, so your truck wouldn't be down for too long. Most have to send their shocks off to be serviced though, so expect a week or more in downtime unless you have a backup set of suspension to run in the meantime. Your final option is to do the work yourself.. truck will be down for as long as it takes you. :)
