Wondering if anyone knows of a resource for a weld on trailing arm bracket? This part welds to the axle and are infamous for letting go. Does anyone know of a replacement? A drawing with dimension might also be a help. Thanks to all!

Get me exact dimensions, and I can make you a new one.

Well, no response but taking a stab at this based on your picture -

Bolt hole is 15/16" off the edge of the bracket

Length of the bracket from the axle housing to the radius end is 2 3/4" while adding 5/8" to wrap around the axle tube

Axle tube on your housing has a 3" diameter making for a 3" radius cut to meet the axle

Width of bracket is 2 5/16"

Radius of the bracket is 1" from the bolt hole center, cut with a 2" radius cut

Again this is all from your picture with no actual information on your end but here's a "test" piece of it -

    Screenshot 2023-08-13 121020.png

Without knowing how wide the gap is between the rear control arm, not to mention the thickness of the steel (assuming 1/8" like most Toyota frames) I can't finish the "flat" part before it bends back over to the surrounding bracket.

If you're short on tools, you can easily buy some scrap metal and trace it out.

Cut it out with an angle grinder and cut off wheel; shape with a flap disc.

    Mark and drill your hole.

Do this twice and you have a new bracket; whether you weld the two bracket ends first and later add the flat part between the two, or make the whole thing from one piece of steel and bend it is up to you.

As for a replacement, this isn't a serviceable item considering such mounts do not normally 'rust until no longer usable".

You either DIY it, find that one single company that has one available (most unlikely, it's such a niche item), or find someone that can make it for you (that's where I come in).

Kwik...sorry for the delay and thank you for the help here (nice work)! I kind of figured after searching widely that finding an actual bracket was going to be a futile exercise. Ballistic Fabrications was looking for some tabs that will fit within the specifications but so far has not found. All after market manufacturers of this stuff typically use 1/4 steel and certainly not the original stock 1/8 steel (barely). I also gotta think a market exists because of the large off road enthusiasm for 4 runners and especially 3rd gen. In any case here are a few dimensions will might help. Ill check my messages regularly from here forward.

Width between tabs (interior) 2 3/8" approx (the trailing arm fits into)
1/2" bolt is utilized which is 4 inches long total
The dimension from the axle to the center of bolt is just under 1 3/4"
The width of the tab is 2 3/8" (pic).

You could sell the tabs or complete bracket to any number of suppliers out there.

These vehicles are too old to bother creating a market for such an item.

Those subjected to rust are either, repaired as a DIY or abandoned altogether.

    Anyway, would this work?

    Screenshot 2023-08-18 065558.png

Any measurements you wish to provide, do add a pic for context! There are some bends as the thing looks like it's all one piece unless I'm mistaken?

Yes...that looks identical to the original. It would have to be done in at least 3/16 steel. The hole placement needs to be verified...actually I should verify all dimensions for accuracy. Any idea of my cost? Thank you. Tom

Something like this I'd just go a hair thicker at 10 gauge.

Stock setup holds up just fine after tons of hard miles even offroad, it's just the rust prevention that needs to be done soon after replacing.

    It'll require approximately 5" x 8" for one bracket

After finalizing measurements, I'll cut my own mock up out of 16 gauge scrap, bend it and if I like it, I'll proceed with the 10 gauge version

My only concern would be getting a nice crisp second bend only because I don't have a gooseneck die; the first bend would be performed on my press brake but afraid the second bend would interfere and have a larger radius due to being bent on vise or something

Worst case I put a relief cut on each side and ship it flat

Thinking about $20 to $25 shipped in 10 gauge

That's exceedingly cheap. I'll do 80 for a pair including shipping? If you want to try the bends fine but I have no real issue with sending them flat with a fold line? I'll send some more pics in a few mnts.

    Ah.... thanks for your service!

What else do we need? I'll verify the measurements by morning my time. Where are you located?

    Located in CA

I'll do a rough draft (drawing real quick) and send it via PM of all the measurements that'll work to make it exact

Otherwise what I have pretty much fits the bill and will work as final adjustment can be made simply with placement on the axle housing itself

Here are your dimensions. I cannot see that there is any offset (item B). If there is its miniscule. The balance of items are pretty straight forward. Thanks for your help.

Revised with your dimensions, and once it's all bent up she checks out

Wanted to keep it as factory as possible so I added the hole on the flat side

Should be able to cut these out first thing tomorrow; today's errand day

Are you planning to bend them up? If you are not then will I be able to fold the 90's without special equipment and weld? Assuming you will score the creases? JUst making sure here. It looks great.

I'm going about bending it myself first; if I get the bends desired then I'll pre-bend for you.

If not, I'll create a relief cut and bend myself again. Doing this will ensure I have the relief cut placed exactly where I need it to be to get you that inside opening.

Kind of funny how the bend radius changes between being bent on a vise and being bent on a press brake.

Regardless, based on what you're offering I'll bend them and if they required a relief, I'll weld it up for you.

So, I lied as I ended up knocking them out today

First, the test cut in some 1/8" scrap I had laying around

    20230819_154203.jpg

    20230819_154345.jpg

Throwing it on the press for the first bend

    20230819_154936.jpg

Good thing I opted to add the relief cuts from the get go; without a gooseneck die I don't have the clearance for the second bend so I finished it on the vise

    20230819_155438.jpg

Close but no cigar; the wings being bent to 90 degree creates only a 2.375" gap so I opted to move the relief cuts outward on each side by .0775"

    20230819_155515.jpg

The real set being cut out of 10 gauge

    20230819_162226.jpg

Also opted to length the relief cut

    20230819_162727.jpg

    Bent and welded

    20230819_172119.jpg

    20230819_172153.jpg

The set is ready to go
