    Hi there,
I’m toying with the idea of trading in my 2013 Tacoma Limited with 47,000 miles for a 2018 TRD Pro in Cavalry blue.
    The 4runner has 34,000 miles.
The price is $43k CAD or $31k USD.
Anyone make the jump to a runner and regret it?
    Here are pics of both.

I can't understate this. If you don't need a bed, the 4Runner is better in every single way.

    Just for credibility:

    2006 Tacoma
    2011 Tacoma
    2017 Tacoma
2016 4Runner (wife's at the same time as my 2017 Tacoma)
2020 4Runner (wife drives Subaru Outback)

In California, that would be a smoking deal with that colorway, mileage and price. It would sell quick here. TRD PRO’s are probably priced higher in CA than anywhere else in the country and folks here still buy them.

    BTW its “CAVALRY” not Calvary.

Before the pandemic in 2019, a 2018 Cavalry Blue TRD PRO with 34K miles would be priced at $41K here in California. (I used to follow TRD PRO prices around this market area)

Prices now are probably different with the current times.

I came from a 2017 Tacoma and could not be happier. 4runner is out dated in the interior compared to the Tacoma but other than that it’s 100% superior. Do it!

There was a 2018 cavalry blue pro in my area a couple months ago with 31k miles, and they wanted 43k for it.

I came from a tundra. I miss the size and power sometimes but I love my 4runner. My bed had a cover and I just used it for storage.

    I'm your huckleberry.

I've had several Tacos and several 4Rs over the years, including (most recently) a 5th g 4R and a 2nd g Taco at the same time. I just dumped that Taco and got another (second) 5th g 4R to replace it.

Every time I drove the Taco after I drove the 4R I came away thinking what a rudimentary piece of shit the Taco was. Well, that's not really fair... I love the Tacoma but it's inferior to the 4R in a lot of ways... even the 3rd g Tacos, which have a nice interior, are sub-par to the 5th g 4R.

The main difference IMHO is build quality...Japan v Mexico / Texas (sorry, Texas).

    Better brakes (disc v drum)

    Better suspension, better ride

Better interface with the 5spd auto (manual shift mode)

    Better interior comfort and room

    Quieter ride

Better off road (weight distributed better, shorter wheelbase, shorter length)

    Gas mileage equally shitty

I'm sure there's more stuff... as said above, the ONLY redeeming trait of the Taco is the bed. If you don't need a bed on a weekly basis then get a 4R!!!!

A lot on here have come from a Taco, me included. A 4 Runner is a superior vehicle, with luxury features compared to a Tacoma. Also, the shorter wheel base is better on the trail. It still has a 4 litre engine. Some of the ORs have KDSS, which I consider a great technology.

I appreciate all the feedback. Keep it coming. I have 2 kids (2yo, 3 month old) and I’m 6’3 so I’m finding it very tight with car seats in the Tacoma. I can’t sit at my usual comfortable seating position with a front facing seat behind me (forget a rear facing seat). The runner seems more spacious for kids

I sold my 2013 TRD Off Road 4x4 Tacoma last August to buy my current 2019 TRD Off Road 4Runner. The only time I miss my Tacoma is when I might need a bed for a Home Depot run, but I have a utility trailer for that. As has been stated already, the 4Runner is superior in every other way to the Tacoma, and that includes the 2nd gen Tacoma, which IMO is far superior to the 3rd gen Taco.

I was able to sell my Tacoma to someone on Tacomaworld.com for $25k. It had 22k miles at the time of sale.

Definitely more spacious. I’m 6’2” so I know what you’re saying. When our grandkids were in the back of the Taco, I felt like my knees were at my chin. I always had to move my seat up for them. They’re out of car seats now, so that helps, but it’s easy having adults in the back. Lots of room.
My Taco was a 2nd gen, but I don’t think I could live with the 3.5 engine from what others have said about it on the Tacomaworld site.

To go along with my above post, for a while I had a "beater " '06 standard cab 4wd 5spd Taco, manual everything. It was a great truck but it was also our third vehicle so I drove it when I needed the bed. As a paid off beater it was great. That's really the only way I'd own a Tacoma again... as a spare car that costs nothing to keep. If you're making payments on it as a primary vehicle then every month you're gritting your teeth thinking about the vehicle you'd rather have that you could be buying with that money instead. The best time to dump a vehicle you don't want anymore in favor of one that you do is right now.... meaning your Taco will never be worth as much as it is right now...

That is a good looking 4Runner. I'm still have my Tundra and it is great having a pickup and a SUV.....

If you can afford it, I would keep both....

    I currently have both a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 double cab and 2018 4Runner.

The issue I have with the 4Runner is the terrible turning radius. While my Tacoma is longer, it still has a much better turning radius than my 4Runner. On my street, I can make a U-Turn in one shot with my Tacoma. However with my 4Runner I have to make a 3-point turn. it’s weird how Toyota deigned them like this.

I never had an issue turning with my 4Runners vs Tacoma. Unsure there. Might be a really narrow street.

My 4Runner fears no Malls, curbs, or small ditches so I recommend just making that 3 point a 1 point :)

Thanks again for all of the replies, I do appreciate everyone’s opinion (especially the taller folks). Tried to set up a test drive yesterday but the truck was in the shop getting an oil change. Hoping to take it out today. I’m still not 100% sold on Cavalry blue yet but it’s been growing on me and looks much better in person.

It’s been a few years since I had my 2015 2nd Gen Tacoma, but I remember the opposite. It was so unwieldy in urban areas. The turning radius was terrible too. Of course, you do what you have to do, and adapt greater driving skills to deal with it. I needed a truck at that time, to pull a horse trailer, so it was perfect for its job but not so perfect for civilian purposes. The 4 Runner turns pretty good. I wonder what the actual stats are? Maybe both of our perceptions are wrong, haha.

I'll split the difference with both of you and say I always thought the Taco had a really good turning radius, but the 4R's is better. You guys aren't turning in 4Lo with the locker on, are you??? LOL

It's a 18 though...I thought those changes are 19+....? Dunno for sure though. That's a exclusive color though so I doubt they're scamming him...

@MeefZah is correct. 2018 that's an exclusive color, pro only. No other way to get it. Didn't start those other features until 2019.

    It's the real deal.

Now you've done it. Once it has planted itself in your driveway, there's no going back...

Nice truck, unique color, definitely. You won't see too many of those driving around. I think that's a very good price. Were you going to trade the Tacoma or sell it outright yourself?

Im 99% sure its a genuine 2018 TRD PRO. But if you have doubts and think there is a chance that someone painted another 4Runner “Cavalry Blue” and made a replica, you can always check the VIN here...

    https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification

That will tell you what trim level it is.

If you sign in you can also check the vehicles service history (not sure if it shows work done only at Toyota)
