OK, I finally picked up my 2023 ORP in Denver last weekend so I sold my 2015 TP (with only 60,000 miles on it) to my daughter who lives there :) Since I am in the process of buying a set of the charcoal ORP wheels from a 2021 Trail Special Edition and the 2015 needed new tires, we decided to head down to Discount Tire and had the wheels swapped between the two 4Runners. Daughter gets new wheels and tires and then I can sell the 2015 wheels after I get my charcoal ones - a win win right?

But then it gets complicated. Neither vehicle now has a working TPMS so yesterday I went back to Discount Tire here in Durango and they told me that the TPMS sensors were dead in the 2015 wheels even though they were working last weekend in Denver because I got a warning and they found a nail in one of the tires

My daughter hasn't had time to go back to Discount Tire yet but now I'm wondering if the 2023 TPMS sensors can be registered to work with the 2015 4Runner or will the sensors need to be replaced? When I look up the TPMS sensors on BAM Wholesale the 2015, 2021, and 2023 sensors all have different part numbers :frustrated:

I assume the wheels are all basically the same so do I need to get the sensors specific for each vehicle that the wheels are being installed on? And if so can I get the sensors from Tire Rack where the prices are a lot more reasonable and still get full functionality on both 4Runners? TIA!

Good point, 0% chance all the sensors went bad at the same time when they were working last week  I'll try initializing the 2015 sensors to the 2023 and I told my daughter if Discount Tire can't register the 2023 sensors to the 2015 she should try the Toyota dealership.

Turns out that no the OEM 2023 TPMS sensors could not be registered to my daughter's 2015 TP even at the Toyota dealer :( So I bought her a set of T3 sensors for the 2015 at Tire Rack and had them sent to Discount Tire and they installed them for $40 and were able to register them to her 4Runner. So she mailed the 2023 TPMS sensors back to me to install in the 2021 charcoal ORP wheels that I bought and the local Discount Tire installed them along with my new tires. I ran the "change wheel set" routine and since the sensors had already been registered to my 4Runner after about five miles of driving the low tire pressure warning light went off and I can now again see the tire pressures in the Toyota app - all's well that ends well :yes:4Runner_9.jpg

How much did the sensors run at Tire Rack? I need two or three and OEMs are expensive.

You should probably just replace all four of the sensors while you are at it. Under $50 each and you can even have them sent directly to your Discount Tire store if they are your tire shop. Even the guy at my daughter's Toyota dealer in Denver said don't buy the Toyota ones and the parts guy at my local Toyota dealer admitted that they use aftermarket ones because the Toyota ones are so expensive

I guess getting all 4 makes sense. So I just buy these from tire rack and take them to my local tyre shop to have it installed. They will have to program it and I don't think discount tire programes sensors not bought from. That's what I ve heard. They will install it and balance the tire though.
I have an older 5th gen, so I have no way of seeing which one works or not unless I connect it to a tpms scanner.

I heard from a reputable shop that "the spare's TPMS may be messing with your other tires." And then, "Your extra set of wheels must be stored too close to where you park." Both of which turned out to be wrong. The shop had installed something like Pontiac-compatible TPMS. I had to go to another shop to verify the problem.

Discount Tire bought Tire Rack two years ago and I bought the TPMS sensors online from Tire Rack and had them sent directly to the Discount Tire near my daughter in Denver. They were able to program them to her 2015 4Runner without going back to the Toyota dealer. I believe that Discount Tire and Tire Rack are quality companies and care about their customers - very impressed :)

I am glad you had a positive experience. Time to find a nice tire shop near me. That Tpms light is getting long in the tooth.

Anyone know if Autel devices can write OEM sensor info to the ECU on a 2011? I got a new set of tires at mounted on some new wheels at Discount. They installed new TPMS sensors and programmed them. They must not have cloned them to my OEM sensors because when I put my old wheels/snow tires back on the TPMS light is on. Could an Autel scan my OEM sensors and write that back to the ecu?

Not true. Autel will scan, read, activate, deactivate all tpms sensors if it's part of their database. And pretty much all generic sensors are part of their database from Denso to BH sense.

I think that there is a little confusion here  the Autel devices are TPMS sensors and Discount Tire or any Toyota dealer should be able to register either your OEM or Autel sensors to your 2011; however, you will need to have this done every time that you switch the set of wheels out:annoyed:

The Autel sells both TPMS sensors as well as TPMS scanners that can read/program generic TPMS sensors.

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. But with two sets of wheels, one with the OEM sensors and the other with a new set of sensors, wouldn't you still need to have each set registered to the vehicle every time you switch wheel sets? Or is it possible to "clone" the new sensors to the OEM sensors?

I get that. I don't want to program any sensors. I want to read OEM sensor and have the Autel program my cars computer with said TPMS data.

If the Toyota TPMS module has the capability to store 2 values per sensor, you should be able to program two different sets with the Autel without issues.
I wouldn't know if it has that capability since I don't swap my wheels/tires depending on season and have never done it.

Not sure what year they added the option to store 2 sets of TPMS sensors. I am thinking 2018 or so?
