TPMS Help

    Hello, I purchased a 2017 SR5 from a dealer last year and the previous owner had swapped the stock wheels with TRD wheels. When he did that, he had them install the wheels with regular valve stems no (tpms). Needless to say the orange low tire pressure light has been on for a year now. I'd like to get that fixed. I called Toyota dealer today and just for the tpms valve stem they want $131ea! That doesn't include installation. Can someone who's had to replace theirs offer some suggestions for aftermarket ones? What all is involved with getting those installed and getting the system to recognize them?

    I ordered some from https://www.tpms.com/ for pretty cheap.

    I have beadlocks so I installed them myself and had a local shop read the sensor. From there I updated the sensors using Carista. No install charge.

    You can have a local shop install and program them for pretty cheap tho.

    Discount tire will sell you one for $60 a piece with installation. German TPMS sensors from BH sens.

    Go to any local tire shop and ask them. I bought a second set of wheels and tires for my wifes 2023 4R and the tire shop charged me something like $120 for a set of 4 sensors, install, and programming.

    They install the new aftermarket sensors, mounted the tires, and programmed the new aftermarket sensors to the ECU.

    After doing mine on the Tacoma I wouldn't pay anyone to do it. I've heard the newer Tacoma's have issues with non OEM TPMS but since yours is 17 it should be fine.

    I got these.

    You can break the bead of the tire with a scissor jack or I've seen guys put a 4x4 and use another car to drive up to break the bead. After I did the first one it takes maybe 5 min a tire.

    I cut the rubber TPMS back out and pulled it through the front and trashed them. Its a bitch to try and pull them out and save.

    Then used Carista to program in the new sensor IDs.
