    FYI Exxon/Mobil makes' Toyota oil.
"As the official manufacturer of Toyota motor oil, ExxonMobil also produces the number-one recommended oil for Toyota vehicles — apart from TGMO, that is. If you can't get your hands on TGMO, Toyota recommends filling your car with Mobil 1.Jan 21, 2024"

Honestly didn’t realize it was the same price as most high quality options. I’ll be picking some up for my next few changes. Worth a shot.

Guys, this is from a dear friend who is a senior petroleum engineer with ExxonMobil: “Toyota synthetic automobile crankcase oil is a rebranded and unaltered version of our Mobil 1 oil.”

I’ve heard several others here in the group also state this. So, my plan is to get whichever one of those versions is cheapest (or most convenient) at the time since it’s the same.

There are different kinds of molybdenum used in engine oils. (Trimer, Dimer, etc.)
Mobil 1 uses the trimer. Takes much less to achieve the same results.
Lots of info on this over on BITOG (Bob is the Oil Guy) website.

lol at 100k, the difference of a better oil won’t be apparent. Next owner can wonder what oil was used during its first 100k. I am not going above and beyond for the next owner of my 4r

    I don't think mobile 1's 1/10th does equally well.

More additive doesn't mean more better. It means they needed more to hit the spec on the oil. Typically oil with a higher quality base will need less additive to hit a spec

While I prefer Mobil1 for newer vehicles.
Couple of older trucks started leaking after switching to Mobil1 high Mileage full synthetic

Moly is effective at certain PPM depending on the type. More doesn't make it more effective.

There's thousands of threads about it on Bob Is The Oil Guy.

Yep. The Toyota Oil is definitely NOT unaltered Mobil 1 oil. That is a fact and the two oils have been tested many times in oil analysis labs. Mobil produces it but has additives such as moly in different quantities.

Yet the more expensive Mobil 1 oil(Extended Performance) has more Moly in it. How come?

Extended performance sounds like extended intervals. I don't do extended intervals with my vehicles. 5K miles and it get changed.

It is a balancing act between too little and too much. Molybdenum helps to maintain oil viscosity and surface coating at high temperatures and extreme pressures but those characteristics can go south if not present, in oil, at correct proportions. I’ll leave it to the engineers at Toyota to understand and know what that proportion needs to be.

I trust the Toyota engineers more who designed their motor. I am sticking tp TGMO and not some generic oil
