I've just recently gotten an SR4 4x4. I've got the trial connection apps and created the account, etc.

Everything seems fine. The odometer and fuel reading on the app are correct.

However, the tire pressure reading is still showing n/a. The dashboard monitor is showing tire pressure on all 4 tires.

I've deleted and re-installed the app, tried running the truck with the app open and no joy.

    Any ideas?

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Let me guess, you have an iPhone, right? Make sure your iOS is up to date. Then delete the app, reboot the phone and re-install it.

    Thanks for the reply.

You are correct! It is an iPhone.

Followed your recommendation (no updates available for the iPhone) and deleted, rebooted, reinstalled.

Status is still the same. I just got it all set up today and ran the 4runner on idle for long enough for the TPMS to register in the dash, but I haven't driven it.

Does it just take time to synch it?

I had some kind of engine code in my app after Toyota dealer did work on the car. They tried deleting the code many times but no success. I just got used to that code being there in the app. Then 5 months later puff it's gone.

Not sure how it works in USA but in Canada we need to pay for certain features. Maybe it's not part of your package or selection?

It does take a short amount of time to sync, but not long. I know the app gives you all the bells and whistles free for one year, after that year is up, the app is worthless. Actually, the app is pretty worthless even during the free-trial period. I mean, really...why do you need an app to tell you what your PSI is?

Update: after running the truck for a bit, seems everything is now synched.

Yep, the app doesn't really do much... except let me play with something while it sits in the driveway!

As for data sharing, those permissions are pretty granular. And seriously, rather or not the vehicle shares data with an app on your phone has nothing, whatsoever, to do with what data Toyota is capable of harvesting from it.

When you clicked Agree on the Toyota App, you gave Toyota permission to sell all your data. I highly recommend calling and opting out, as this data will make its way to your insurance which will use it as an excuse to increase premiums.

My Tire Pressure recently quit working as well. Not a very good app anyway. I will probably just delete it. Serves no real purpose.

I use my app to start the truck, lock/unlock the doors, make service appointments and keep track of the service history. I rotate my tires so I can add that to the history as well. It's nice to be able to check to make sure the windows are closed and the truck is locked.

I dont have the trim level to do all that fancy pants remote stuff ;)

BUT! I do like the idea of having the service history available, and tracking tire rotations is a great idea! Thanks for this reply, because I wasn't really finding a reason to keep the app installed before.

I’d recommend keeping seperate records of service history, and avoid depending on it for tracking your long term maintenance. It’s kind of hard to tell if Toyota would keep that info for you if you decide to stop paying. Or if they decide to discontinue support for that version of software in 5 years time.

These toyota apps are low-grade “products” on the same level of $500 pinstripe, or nitrogen fill on tires, paint guard, or other pointless garbage products sold to you by the dealer. But instead of cash grab, it’s a data grab (basically the same thing since the data is to sell). It sucks that they don’t even bother to offer the customer a good software product in return, but knowing the purpose of these apps helps to temper your expectations regarding it’s functionality.

Once they have your permission to harvest your data, Toyota is done with the “transaction”. I doubt toyota hires anyone to really care about making a better app. In fact, toyota has been known to generally suck in terms of software bells and whistles, since they are traditionally about being good “only” at the engineering and manufacturing of automobiles.

I thought all trim levels had those options when Toyota upgraded the electronics in 2020. For the price of a 4Runner, every level should have the option, especially since they charge fees .

Thanks for the reply. The app eventually updated (see post #7). I guess the 4runner just had not been running long enough after I paired the app.
