Hi everyone. I'm new to this group and here is my story.

I have a 1994 4Runner that I have been towing behind my RV for 20 years. It now has over 300,000 miles (on the odometer) and has been towed another 150,000 miles. Still in great shape, but time may be running out. I use a driveshaft disconnect to tow and it works great.

I purchased a 2018 4Runner TRD Off Road with the idea that I would tow this when my 1994's time was up. I have heard conflicting information about the ability to tow this model. I would love to hear from someone that is towing this model by shifting the transfer case to neutral. Anyone out there? Anyone have any comments?

I can't speak to this as I have an SR5 with the electronic knob, but it has me wondering...
How would you tow a vehicle that doesn't have a transfer case that you can manually shift to N?

Not with the wheels on the ground or removing the rear driveshaft.

Some have added a rear driveshaft disconnect for flat towing.

Are the manual transfer case (TC) models not flat-towable with the TC in neutral?

Negative. The oil pump in the transfer case is driven at the transmission side.

Might be better off with a Wrangler, I believe those can still be flat towed with the t-case in Neutral.

Hi Jamie, don't have advice, but do have admiration! Good luck with new choice. Leslie
