Hey guys, Ive got a new Veepeak BLE Plus scanner that just came in. Bought the Torque pro app from playstore. Got the add on Toyota plugin. When I put truck into accessory on switch, plug in veepeak, it pairs with my android phone no problem. I have blue activation light that comes on, torque recognizes the pairing and shows the Veepeak but it wont let me read the ECU, says connectivity issues? Is this a dead new scanner? Or am I missing something? I quit app and restarted it and same issue. Any ideas on this one? Is the veepeak shit? If so can anybody recommend one that works well? Or is there a fix it solution? Ive looked at the FAQ stuff and everything seems ok other than it wont read ECU. Thanks

Have you tried it with one of the other apps that it supports on a trial basis to try and narrow it to an app issues or the OBD portion?

No havent tried it. What I need is somethign to measure transmission temp. I have an out of date Scangauge II, maybe I should have bought the upgrade instead of the Veepeak.

Anybody recommend a better OBD2 scanner that with or without torque Pro can measure trans temp? This is pretty much the main reason I need it. Want to do a full dump and float check on the trans fluid at temp as per manual.

I use OBD Fusion to see it but I rarely ever monitor it because the temp fine in 99% of driving situations.

Its no so much an ongoing monitor as I rarely tow. Its just to dump the fluid, get it to the right temp operating window and loosen the float valve to drain out any overfill. I get you can sort of do this with a graduated large cylinder and measure what comes out and put that back in, but I would prefer as its an expensive component to slightly overfill then dump at the temp window to get the right level at heated volume.

Elm 237 or something? Torque pro app? Isn’t that something android related that reads it?

and how long does it take for the scan gauge 2 to go out of date? I’ve had one for 7 years and it still works

I got my scan guage years ago, and I use it for tranny temp and other real time readouts. I would email Scanguage (in Az I think) and see if a firmware update is available.
Or maybe add an X-guage setting on your existing unit.
On this issue years ago someone did a test of the tranny pan temp with a IR thermometer and the readings were very close to a read thru the OBD2. Sorry I did not save the link.

yes thats the main reason for now, that and codes and the usual. But trans temp first.

IVe heard of that one, dont you need to run a pin jumper on the port as well? I this the method the CarCareNut guy was using? Anybody tried it? HOw did it work?

Thanks for posting it. Have heard of it, hadnt seen the full write up. Appreciate it!

No need to use a jumper wire, just follow the instructions. I flushed my transmission fluid last October and used these instructions to get the fluid level right.

Shouldn't be in ACC. Press the start button twice to put power "ON". The gauge cluster should light up like a Christmas tree with all the caution lights. The equivalent position with keyed ignition would be "ON" but without cranking the engine.

I have used these in the past. Bluetooth one works for Android with Torque Pro. The wifi ones seems to work with iPhone, but haven't tried iPhone.

With my experience they work ok but sometimes the connection get lost.

For constant monitoring I'm absolutely in love with the wired Scanguage 2. This is a low profile device.

They also have a newer and bigger device called Scanguage 3 if needed.

    (Not my pic)

Sincerely appreciate this. I got it connected to ecu. Its weird how before it was showing live but failing to talk to ECU. Ah well...

Looks like were are working. Not sure on second Transtemp failing to read, maybe this is due to lack of mechanical pumping same with oil pump at 0. Coolant checks out vs. Trans 1 for ambient as its sat several days in the garage.

Hey guys the trans temp and coolant gauges are working fine..coolant temp like 180..trans 140 or so. Low load, cold ambient. My oil temp gauge claims no temp? What can we measure for oil on the Torque app that works? Either oil temp or pressure would be fine. Everything otherwise working ok.

^There may be no oil temp sensor in the engine. Oil pressure may just be a high/low switch used to drive the gauge cluster warning light, not sure. I haven't really messed with Torque Pro except to monitor transmission pan temperature for fluid level checks.

Anybody gone the route of a conventional gauge to monitor oil temp or pressure? Yeah I think your right the data channel doesnt exist. I found it but its not reading anything so likely no signal. I think the oil dash light is pressure based and is idiot type of light... its either normal or no pressure.

^Oil temp should not differ much from coolant temp, because there's a coolant/oil heat exchanger on top of the oil filter housing.

I had to create custom PIDs in Torque Pro to read the converter and trans pan temps. Mine's a 2010. Not sure if much later years have a different formula:
