Tire Swing Theft - Worry Or Not ?

Hi All,

Getting ready to install a Westcott Design hitch mount tire swing. It comes with nice, beefy cad-plated hardware, including NyLok nuts to prevent loosening. I'll be using the black Toyota/McGard lugs and a matching lock to keep the spare where it belongs.

What I'm wondering, and seeking input on, is do I need to have concern over somebody horking the entire swing and tire, by unbolting it, or am I being a worrt-wart?

My neighborhood does not have car tampering problems, and I'm thinking more about when I'm out and about... or sitting in a motel parking lot at night...

I use a locking hitch pin in my Rigd tire carrier to keep it on the truck. Also use a cable lock through the spare to the carrier to keep it on the carrier. Neither is absolutely fool proof but the locking hitch pin is about the most secure you can make the carrier.......

The Westcott has a piece that goes in the Receiver, and I have a good locking pin for that. The Swing mechanism itself bolts onto the Receiver Adapter with a pair of 5/8 bolts with NyLok nuts.

My thought was getting a couple of the "Tri-Drive" nuts and the special socket, and using LocTite. The Tr-Drives and socket are cheap compared to the swing, tire and rim...

 

Not. Have you eve read about anyone having just the swing taken off? Me neither.
