Open Country AT3 or Falken Wildpeak AT3?

    Pros/cons.. thoughts.. recommendations?

As of right now, my runner will be more highway BUT will see some off roading. Just wanted to get some feelers out there to see which was preferred! Thank you!!

While waiting for my ORP to get to the dealer I've trying to figure out what tires to switch to. The Falken Wildpeaks have a solid following and so do the Toyo AT3s. I keep bouncing around but I think I'm going with the Toyos because of the weight. The Toyo 265/70-17 in BSW weighs 39lbs and the Falken weighs 46.5lbs. That's a lot extra unsprung weight to be lugging around on the highway.

My dog weighs 65 pounds which is more than the difference in weight between those two tires. I don' t know if shes sprung or unsprung weight, but she does roam the truck quite a bit when we're driving.

Get the tires you want, but weight isn't one my top concerns when shopping for tires. I love my Wildpeaks!

There's supposedly a big difference between unsprung weight and just weight you add to the car. In drag racing each 100lbs you add to your car slows you down around around .1 second in the quarter mile. So probably around 10 horsepower for around a 3000lb car to make up for the weight. For unsprung weight like wheels and tires, the difference is significantly greater than that. I never tested it at the track but I've read up to 10x more significant but who knows?

I added the falken wildpeaks and other then forming up the ride compared to stock tires I have not really noticed a difference in performance between the two types of tires.
