If a friend buys a third row of seats for her 4runner, will they fit in a 4runner that never had a third row from the factory?

    Oooh look, another mod.....

No. The mounting brackets or whatever will not be on the floor. I mean, you could put them back there, but they'll slide around and not be secured to anything.

2nd row seats are different with 3rd row vs 2 row.

3rd row of seats in a 4Runner has to be the most ridiculous car feature ever hoisted on the public. And unless you buy a trim designed specifically for off-road, your going to get them because it's literally all the lots get allocated. I get more enjoyment out of my $1,000 carbon fiber mirror caps Toyota made me buy on my Supra vs. this third row of seats. Who in the world can sit back there? I mean, a kid would have to be so young that mom or dad has to buckle them in. And you ain't getting around the second row without darn near pulling the row out. And the worst part? It's an extra 100 pounds and takes about 6" of vertical room out of the back end.

Count yourself lucky for not having it. Rent a vehicle when you need to move more than 4 people.

Thanks for the reply. I am not looking to do it, I am just asking for a friend that had people stop by with little kids.

I disagree. I'd put the gas-saving feature of shutting off engine cylinders way above a 3rd row seat in a 4R. The auto stop/start feature is bad enough (luckily our 4Rs don't have that), but having the engine cut off cylinders is ridiculous.

My wife would only agree to a new car for us that had a third row even though I really didnt want one.... so I found an SR5P that had one and it stays folded down 99.9% of the time.

Yup...like the old saying goes, "it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it"...

Here is a video from someone who added it. It is a lot of work but possible.

I just wish I could have had that "AND" a rear locker from the factory. Functionally there's no reason they couldn't have allowed me to have the rear locker as an option.
So now I'll have to add my own later front and rear with a regear. (much later)

I never knew there was that much to install those seats. Thank you for the video and I will pass it on to her.

I'd stone cold murder the person in the 2nd row if I had to sit back there for more than 10 minutes. We'd have to be running from a forest fire or something. Even then I might just walk :)

Here is something I just thought about. @OP, on a 4runner equipped with a 3rd row from factory, the 2nd row is on rails that slide forward A TON. You will have 2 problems with a vehicle that wasn't intended to have a 3rd row.
    1. The 2nd row doesn't have the special setup to allow ingress into the third row on the passenger side.
    2. The 2nd row doesn't slid so you can only get into the 3rd row by folding the 2nd row flat and climbing across.
