Hello! This is my first post here and I've done some light research on some 3rd gen 4runners. I currently own a 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback and I love it but my interests are changing and I want to do some more outdoorsy stuff like camping and I might want a trailer in the future. I have been looking at 3rd gens for awhile and have been considering them for some time on maybe a new vehicle for me so I could enjoy these new hobbies. I mainly use my car for around town but I've found i need something with more space. I'm not too worried about MPG and I understand these older 4runners are not perfect and I expect to do some work if that is necessary. Just looking for opinions is all and I'm generally new to the community! Sorry for the story haha but I'm open to any advice and things to look out for if I do start shopping

Welcome, I’m thinking at 20+ years old you’re at the mercy of how each individual one has been treated as well as time hitting rubber bits, etc so it could get annoying/pricey.

If heading off-road that’s one thing, but if you anticipate mostly dirt/gravel roads your options are wider especially for a daily driver. If it’s for the budget, I’d look at a newer Xterra - if it’s for the rugged good looks, I sympathize.

You could definitely dip your toe into camping in your current vehicle too, lot of folks making it work with a wide variety of vehicles out there.

I understand the rubber bits probably won't hold up very well and I expect to replace them as needed.

I have thought about X-Terras and some older Pathfinders and I haven't done alot of looking really. I was just drawn towards the 3rd gens and thought I'd get some advice. I also have look at some 1st Gen sequoias but those things guzzle gas.

I have considered camping in my civic and I'd love to but there's no room for anything past a mattress and maybe a bin or two in the front to hold food and clothes haha. I stand about 6ft tall and it can be cramped. I am still considering it though. I just know I could get stuck easy on the street tires I run on the car now.

    I appreciate your reply man!
