Hello, I've been a long-time Nissan owner (Maxima + Pathfinder). I am thinking of trying out the any of the late model 4Runners - maybe 2017+(SR5, SR5 Premium, or the Limited trims) because of its 3rd seating options.

Before committing myself, I am wondering if you have any specific advice for any issues I should watch out for/ask about when considering 5th Gen 4Runners, particularly those years? Are there other years you would recommend. My budget is limited to $30K.

    sincerely, PS

No issues with the 5th gens, those are good years and I think predate the fuel pump recall (which in and of itself isn't a big deal). 30k might be a little thin to get even a 17; resale on them has gone up.

I was just in the same boat as you with same budget in mind. They are very hard to find in my area, in good condition. Most of the ones I could find were 2014-2016 with about 100k miles.

Then I found one 2017 Limited (4x4) with 106k miles and they were asking $29k (pre-tax) and wouldn’t budge at all due to new car supply chain issues and knowing that used vehicles are in high demand right now because of said issues. All the dealers I looked at were the same way, wouldn’t budge on any used car prices.

I finally bit the bullet and accepted the reality that the prices won’t go down. No issues so far after 3 weeks. The ride compared to my Tacoma is night and day.

    Good luck
