Well it took some time, but I found out some info on trails you might see when riding around in Wis. Seems each county has it's own rules, for instance, in Jackson county close to where I live, if a given trail you come across doesn't have a gate or a berm built up on it you may drive on it. I know there are 72 counties in Wis. and it would take lots of "leg work" to find out all the rules, so I guess what will have to happen is a bit of preplanning (phone ahead) when you figure out which county your going to, at least in Wis. There are lots of known places to go here, I'll have to stick with when I get "out there." Canada is an option for me, whenever the border opens. Ontario here I come!

There is one local organization—Road Legal 4WD (https://rl4wd.com/)—that tend to various trails and advocate for those who wander off road in and around the area. They work pretty hard to make sure there are places for us to go. They may be a resource if you’re looking for additional opportunities.

The Wisconsin Coalition for 4WDs is another. (https://wc4wd.com/)

Some folks are more free-spirited when it comes to off road adventures in the state and have mixed feelings about organizations like those above, so be prepared for that feedback as well. :crapstorm:

Not to intrude, but is The Pipeline area around Mountain / Lakewood area near the Nicolet still available to run? We used to run our Rovers up there, and at what used to be McCacaslin Mountain. Great stuff, especially during the winter.

Here's a link to the motor vehicle usage maps for the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest:

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/cnnf/maps-pubs

These can be printed out, or downloaded and used with Avenza maps or other similar offline GPS apps.

The organizations that @Chris In Milwaukee mentioned are worth checking out. Just don't ever post anything about where you go on Facebook or you'll get lectured by guys who don't know what they're talking about.

I might like to go to one of their events sometime and try to get a better feel for what they're really about. Having one of their members publicly chastise our group for running closed trails (which were actually open) didn't make a good impression on me.

Yes it is. You need to look at the current MVUM to be sure you don't go into closed areas. Most are marked with signs or fences, but some are not. You can no longer run the whole length, but you can get through the sections that are open.

Let me know if you want company. I try to get up there a few times a year.

Here's a thread I started to try to plan some events in the area. I'm hoping to do an October T.W.A.T run and wind up at Potosi Brewery.

Thanx Thatbassguy, I'll checkout all the info I can, don't want trouble having fun. Not like the "old days" when we found a muddy area to run, and didn't really care who knew about it.

I moved to SW NM last year, so it might be a while before I head that way anytime soon. The Chicagoland Rovers club runs up there with some of the Jeep clubs. We also used to hit Cliffs Insane Terrain, which was one of my first in IL. Enjoy it up there.

As @Thatbassguy mentioned, some of it is. The MVUM at the above URL gives up-to-date status on all trails in the forest. He has the most experience in the area of most I know in this group.
