Welp, driving in our stock TRD Pro from Ocean City MD wife saw another TRD Pro which was basically stock except for a rear ladder situation going on and now she wants one.

What is the Ferrari of rear ladders that best case will require no drilling only bolting of some kind or little to no drilling?

Gobi, zero drilling. I don’t think any ladder requires drilling too.

I have a Gobi. I like it. No drilling required

I'd recommend an aluminum ladder since you are from Ocean City, MD. Here in the northeast, corrosion is the biggest threat. I went with the Greenlane Offroad ladder for that reason (https://greenlaneoffroad.com/14-4runner/5th-gen-4runner-ladder). Note, their prices are in CAD so it will be less once you convert to USD.
The Westcott Designs ladder is also aluminum but instructions call for drilling into the hatch. The C4 ladder is mostly aluminum but has steel mounting brackets, but no drilling.

    Couple things:

if you keep the pro rack or replace with a gobi (or other rounded rack) then you probably want a ladder that matches. If you have a prinsu or sherpa rack (or other angular rack) then you probably want a ladder to match.

I've got the Sherpa Crestone already installed and my Westcott Designs ladder arrives tomorrow:bananadance:. I decided against gobi because:
    - looks cool but EVERYONE has one (I've only seen one Sherpa in my area and only about 8-10 prinsus but I've seen about 100 gobis)
    - waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to long lead times
    - their

ladder steps are VERY narrow and rounded so not ideal in wet/muddy/snowy conditions. Last thing I want to do is slip off that sob...

hope that helps and good luck:cheers:

Gobi probably what you want as it matches the stock rack. No drilling.

Do you want it for looks or are you going to use it? Those little round rung ladders are light and look cute but they absolutely suck to climb; impossible with wet, muddy boots. Ladders with wide, flat steps and risers you can wrap man size hands around are a lot more useable. :crapstorm:

Or just stand on the rear tires while leaning on the rear window like the rest of us with no ladders do ;-)

I've found the Moki door step to be much more functional than a ladder.

How often do you load a full length rack from the back? I typically load mine from the sides.

I’ve always considered it curious, considering the plethora of other crap that people bolt on to their trucks, that ladders should be such a polarizing issue.

OP, does your wifey want fashion or function because that may make a difference in what ladder would be considered best in your case. I don't have a ladder, but have a solid hitch step that works awesome in accessing the roof when needed. They are a lot less $ than ladders. But if it's the look she's wanting then, yeah...you better get a ladder ;)

Apparently ladders are a couple of rungs (pun intended) above bull bars in that regard...

I like the look of the GOBI ladder. I've been contemplating on ordering one just to mount my ROTOPAX containers, because putting those on the roof is a pain in the butt. Its also good place to hang a trasharoo

In the category of things that make you go ‘hmmm’: Adding a device that is supposed to give easy access to the roof — so that you can mount something to it and avoid going up to the roof.

there are many times in my life that i used something that it wasn't designed for, and it worked out perfectly.

V2 of the C4 ladder requires drilling, the original friction mount design didn't do too well with larger loads.

I was thinking the higher the rung, the more desirable, so IMO a snorkel would be dragging on the bumper on the ladder of importance.

If I followed the advice of this thread to the letter, I should stop using my ladder because it's unsafe and round, and I have tires.

I have yet to die from its utilization lol

Gobi ladder has been pretty solid.

I use it often and have used it in many different conditions. The only real problem I have encountered is you can easily scuff the paint with boots when you go up and down if you're not careful. Other than that, no complaints.

I believe the ladder has a max load capacity of 250lbs. "Those ladders can't withhold a MAN".... none of us should weigh remotely close to that (no offense).

I’m still holding on to my holiday weight and come damn close to that max. No issues going up mine. It’s most often used by my daughter, who is only 5’4, to get up on the roof and use it for photography.

I was trying to figure out how the hell to mount stuff to my molle panels one night. Frustrating. I was trying all sorts of ways. I was seriously racking my brain on how to get stuff on there, but yet be easily accessible and removable…

Then, I kid you not, the actual thought of putting a thing on a small molle panel to mount on the main molle panel went through my head. As if that would make it somehow easier?!?

That’s when I shut the hatch and just went back inside…
