I recently sold my Wrangler TJ and picked up my first 4Runner last week. It's a 2021 OFP. So far no regrets whatsoever.

I still have the stock tires on it and I'm looking to swap them out for a set of ATs. I'm going to stick with the stock size. I have my eye on Nitto Terra Grapplers since I'm on road 99% of the time and my off roading consists of easy to moderate trails.

I'm not sure if I should go with the E or the SLs. I know the TRD Pros come with the Terra Grapplers. Does anyone know if those are Es or SLs?

    E will always give a stiffer ride compared to a P tire… or a C and D.

There is no “ply” anymore and modern radials are pretty smooth at D and E even compared to 15 years ago.

In short, you will never approach E in weight, but an E tire will have a thicker sidewall.

I'm a huge fan of my E's. They ride and sound the same as the lower-tier option I had when I picked it up. And I know they are much stronger.

for your needs as you describe them, I would definitely go SL. I assume that's what is on the Pro. you will save a lot of weight, which is beneficial in many ways, plus the ride will be better and they will be cheaper.

E rated absolutely have their benefits, but only really off road (or maybe towing), and it isn't like the SL's can't leave pavement.

I don't agree with the poster above me. I run E rated tires, they do not ride like SL rated tires.

also... I would choose a different tire if I were you. I have not run the terra grapplers myself, but from what I have read, they aren't as good as some other options out there. seems like lots of people choose them because they are on the Pro and not for their actual performance.

I run E rated because I like the ride better than SL and are stronger against possible puncture. The SL tires feel too floaty, especially in corners.
