Tailgate trim panels

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the black trim panels around the back window on the tailgate. My family has a 17 that had spots appear in the trim after less than a year and toyota said it was something we did. We eventually replaced the trim panels but just recently my girlfriends dads 18 4runner has started to have the same issue. unfortunately not just water spots. And the two 4runners are in different states so not just an issue where they both drove through the same area and got exposed to something.

 

I haven’t seen spots like that on mine but mine is only 14 months old and 9,000 miles. You might consider 303 Aerospace Protectant to help preserve your plastic and vinyl trim pieces. Good luck.

 

When I first purchased my 2010 4Runner used in 2013, I noticed rust starting in between the trim panel and body in the upper right corner. I took it back to the dealer and eventually they agreed to repaint it under the 5 year corrosion warranty. Just recently before I traded my 2010 in, I noticed it was starting to rust again in the same spot and along the seams on the inside of the lift gate. I know this isn’t the problem that you are having, but maybe something to keep an eye out for. I live in Nebraska, so I’m sure the winters don’t help with this.
