    Hey all!

Just logged my first 1k on my new 22 Blizzard Pearl Limited and thought I should stop lurking.
I have plans to do the Limited to TRD Pro conversion over the first couple years.

My wife convinced me to go with a 4Runner and I must say, I'm obsessed. I walk backwards into my house every day as I gaze at my driveway. These forums have been so helpful already—so thank you all for the insights and inspiration.

So far only minor mods (TRD roof rack, Limited debadge, dipped rear garnish/emblems), but gearing up to do a bumper swap before our first child comes (5 weeks out).

Thanks, see y'all at the pump ;)
    Jason

    Congratz on your new 4Runner..!!

    I'm not a fan of appearance mods. If I were to do mods (In other words just my personal) my list would have things like;

    • E-Lockers front and rear. Twin Lockers and your Limited having center diff lock making it Tripple locker would make the Limited more capable than a TRD Pro. (E-locker seems to be trouble free when I checked but did not install to mine.)
    • Change front and rear bumpers for more clearance. (I looked in to this and realized it needs lot of parts and then drilling for the parking sensors. If it was easy as old bumper remover and new bumper in I would definitely do it.) I don't think swapping front camera mount is a big deal.
    • Change Limited rocker panels to SR5/TRD ones and then add rock sliders. (When I check on this the rear wheel well does not seem to have a plastic cover to give a nice finish. It would have a gap. I cannot live that kind of gaps. So did not do that.)
    • Add full skids for added protection
    • A minor suspension lift just enough to clear 17in tires like 285/70R17. (It is surprising that Limited is easy to clear bigger tires vs SR5/TRD. Right now I have 2.25in front & 1.5in rear lift.) But with my experience no lift suspension is comfortable as stock XREAS on road.
    • As for the TRD Pro roof rack I absolutely hate the wind noise on road trips. Also it only has 110lbs distributed weight. If I'm spending money I would get a proper roof rack with more capability and low profile for less wind noise and one that can support a light bar and most importantly one with accessories mounting support (like mounting gas, traction boards, hilift jack, storage box, etc...).
    • As for TRD Pro stuff I really don't like TRD Fox & TRD exhaust if you are thinking of those. Also TRD ORP/TRD Pro hood scoop looks really good on pictures but give lot of glare from the sun. I guess some wraps would solve it but I don't know how well a wrap would last in long run, so I haven't done it my self.

I’m just warming up with some low impact, low cost mods. My goal is to be overland capable but the reality is that more often than not, I’ll be logging highway miles to work.

The lead times on the more capable roof racks wouldn’t work for me (needed to transport lumber for urgent deck repairs) and the TRD rack is like a third of the price. I’ll likely upgrade down the road but the noise hasn’t bothered me yet.

Before the end of the year I’d like to upgrade wheels and tires and bumper swap. Lot of parts but doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility. Unfortunately, I’m having trouble tracking down the front bumper part number. Daytona Violets spreadsheet is very helpful but some part numbers have changed or no longer available.

As Chess Guy mentioned, the rest will have to be in due time as these things add up, but it’s fun to be dreaming of all the possibilities.

Thanks for all the thoughts. Def some things on your list that are also on mine!

I was trying to stay within a lower price point so I was leaning toward an Atlas. Wasn't in love with it, but didn't feel like I had a lot of options. My sister has a 4runner and we drove it when we were visiting them in CO, and wife was adamant that we test drive. Once we did, she fell in love with the feeling of being in a plush tank so we began the hunt for a Limited.

Smart woman. Also, it seems Atlas reliability is suspect.
