Good evening friends. I bought a 1993 Surf 3.0 V6 auto about 6 months ago. Its real tidy. Haven't been out with it much. But I know they are gutless and thursty on fuel. It takes forever to accelerate and fuel consumption is real bad on it. If I'm out on a gravel rd and going slow and there is a bit on an incline in the road its just not speeding up, I can have the pedal to the medal. Gearbox will shift gears but its bad just feels there is no power. If I'm on a flat rd I can get to 100km/h it takes a while . The wife used ot the other day and the fuel consumption was like 3km/ lt I bought it for hunting and fishing purposes. Not sure if I want to tow my boat with it. Any other v6 owners that can shed some ideas on their surfs.

Welcome from Wisconsin! She's darn near 30 yrs. old ARRIE! Maybe she's getting tired. I'm thinking... "I'll use the Surf to go hunting or fishing, but pulling the boat??.... Maybe not." The 3.0 of yours might just need a good tune up, as far as it being thirsty, it shares that with the newer 4.0. Don't forget to check the air filter, that will get ya rolling on the tuneup. If that doesn't help.... remember, hunting... fishing.... NO boat pull.

The 3.0 is rated 11 mpg city, 15 mpg highway so yes it is bad in fuel economy. And it is called the 3.slow for nothing. Have fun with it though.

The automatics they used were sluggish with poor acceleration. How many km does it have?

My '94 was definitely slow, but I don't remember being unable to accelerate on an incline. It sounds like there could be something else wrong.

We had it on the diagnostic machine today and the knock sensor is also faulty . That causes the engine light to come on every time we drive it. Could that retard the timing and cut power back to protect the engin? I remember when I was racing motorcycles sometimes when the bike went into redline it went into limp mode and cut the power. Could that be the same with a possible faulty knock sensor?
