Has anyone supercharged their 4Runner? It's a hefty expense, about $8,500 for the Magnuson, and you only get about 30-35% increase in power. Looking for someone who went through it to learn if it's worth it or not. IMO, my 23 Limited needs more power for getting up to speed on highways or passing on the uphill.

    Only 30-35% ? That’s a massive increase.

    1) Maintenance schedule and cost might be another important point you might wanna ask for anyone who as done it.

    2) If you decide to sell it how much depreciation it would have due to engine mods might be another item to search around.
2.a) Or would it be worth to get a higher trade in value as stock and go for something with 3.4twin turbo like the Tundra / GX550, etc..

    Edit -
    3) Also read the warranty document and see if that works with you.

I did with my Tacoma and at first it wasn't worth it. I had to pulley down to get real power because the trap times at the track were slower than when I had intake and exhaust. It never really did run to it's full potential but I blame the TRD tune.

I do want to supercharge the Runner. Is it worth it, well that's on each individual. It's not going to be a rocket but hill climbs and passing are easier.

Any guess on factory warranty if adding a supercharger? I think it would give dealer alot to decline warranty on mechanical/drivetrain but maybe I am wrong.

Trying a tune first. Get in touch with kdmax, ott or yotawerx. All are members on here.

Its around $500 and does make a huge improvement.

I've thought about it but I feel like I'd be disappointed in the performance for the price

Many threads on the subject. Search and read and proceed with caution. It is a big investment. I got one as well as regear....and so my basis has shifted considerably. Worth it?.....sometimes yes, sometimes no. Like anything with these things there are plenty of pros and cons. Good luck reading all the stuff we have on the forum on this subject.

Are you going full throttle, and still want more power? A tune or supercharger will definitely be beneficial.

Or, if you actually want it to be fast, I recommend trading it in for something fast. ;)

Otherwise, try mashing the gas to the floor before you make any decisions.

In a good way? Or in a bad way?

Edit: it seems like a tune is the only better bang for the buck performance modification. But, it doesn't add anywhere near as much power.

As with any mod, warranty is not voided and the dealer will simply refuse to fix issues that come from a related aftermarket part.

I guess that's my point. Supercharger seems like could be blamed for alot of engine/drivetrain problems. Cost/power ratio is too high for me. Unfortunately for the 4r I just don't see many realistic options for increasing power. As pointed out by others easier just to buy something else that meets the needs.

You are not wrong. Anything that goes wrong with the drivetrain would almost certainly be denied as warranty. Even if in truth it didn’t cause the problem, the dealer would still deny it. It would be up to you to fight an uphill battle. That said, I’m sure if a dealer noticed upsized tires on a 4runner, they would also deny coverage on anything drivetrain because of the effective gearing change.

I recall a reading that the Magnusson warranty will only be in effect if the vehicle doesn’t have any other drivetrain mods. So supercharger plus 285s, for example, would void their warranty.

So, <$8K for about 1/3 increase in power is terrible in your opinion?

I have never heard of issues when adding a blower. I added mine at 90K miles and it kept going until it was totaled at 145K. I drove it hard too.

    What search?

The supercharger adds about 1/3 power for under $8K. No search needed.

Or, were you referring to the deleted part, where I asked what other performance mod adds that much power for less $$?

Without cost being a factor what other mod will add 30-35% HP to an N/A engine?

Ok find a better horsepower per dollar option that will achieve the amount of power increase that the OP is looking for.
