    Hello,
Prepping for the first light offroad trip, 2 weeks. Did this in trucks before,(never owned a Toyota SUV) on stock tires and of course I got stuck. I was not alone, but we had a few close calls. Trucks riding on mud bottomed out, another truck in the ditch and so on. Going in a very remote area, hours away from the closest village. I can't educate the group more than talking, stubborn friends will never learn. Long lost (40s-50s) logging roads, washouts, fresh dirt, small creeks and tiny river beds in northern Ontario. I will be getting my hands on my TRD OR in Sept. Trip is mid Oct, so not a lot of time to act.
    1. I will upgrade the tires as soon as I get the baby home. I will do stock suspension with 275/70/17. Looking at Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus, Falken WildPeak A/T AT3W, General Tire Grabber A/T2, Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac or BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A® KO2
Which one do you recommend? I understand this size will not rub. They must be snow rated otherwise the insurance will ding me. Things are different in Canada and where I live, they don't exactly plow the snow right away.
    2. Should I get the crossbars with the Rola basket or go straight for the Nfab aluminum ? (it can do 150lb, no drilling), I will not cover my sunroof. There is an obvious price difference.
    3. Recovery boards. I am looking at these ones, will they do OK for the trip? https://www.amazon.ca/FieryRed-Reco...YV6FXKMBR11&psc=1&refRID=KA2JS78XBYV6FXKMBR11
    4. I will not carry the gas jugs in the cabin, the drive there alone is about 24 hours and I definitely need the space. The cans will stay at the camp and on the truck only for the duration of the drive up there. I will put the jugs up on the roof, I was thinking about 4x10l ones, plastic, as seen here: https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/10-litre-self-venting-gas-can/A-p8237869e - this is not an often recurring process.
    5. Recovery ropes (I have 4 in. x 30 ft 20,000 lb Tow Strap, 7/8 in. x 14 ft 8,500 lb Tow Rope, 2 in. x 20 ft 10,000 lb Tow Strap) - do I need more?
    6. Trailer hitch installed
    7. What should I do for front skid plate? Go OEM ? I don't care about the looks, I care about functionality and probably have it aluminum to save on weight.
    8. I am confused about front recovery points. Can any of you more experienced please shed some light as to what I have to do? Probably the TRD OR has the KDSS.
    9. On the trails I will have with me some food, water, a blanket, first aid kit, flashlights, fire starter, small ax, shovel, walkie talkie with access to the local weather channel(162.400), my cellphone with the area downloaded offline on the device, charging cables, external battery pack, fresh pair of clothes/shoes in case I get wet, rain gear, gloves, rope, a tarp (14x19) and maybe a sleeping bag.
    10. I will carry a decent air compressor, not hard core as you guys have...and a tire plug/fix kit.
    11. A set of bulbs to change them in case the low/highs fail. I will do the H9/H11 mod before I do.
    12. Is it worth doing the 32" light bar and mounts for Caliraised?
    13. Any other suggestions are welcome ! The more I know, the better I will be.
