Don’t want a debate about Stahlbus vs Fumoto please. The safety of the screw on cap if failure of the system is the deciding factor for me.

The Stahlbus comes with a metal crush washer. Wonder if anyone has opinion about using this instead of the blue type drain plug washer from Toyota.

Also, I know the advantage of using these systems is easy of change, but I wonder about how long you might go without replacing that washer just as any long term maintenance item. It is an easy single point of failure for the engine.

I don’t remember if I used the blue OEM one or not but I haven’t had any issues with mine.

I never had issues with Fumoto but just wanted to try something else.

I would try both. Crawl under it if you can or jack it up to look and see which performs better. Could perhaps be the same and won’t get any leaks. As long as you change it at least every other change if it every change.

I ran out of my blue washers and I’ve used the OEM one for 2 oil changes and it’s still bone dry. I check once every few days

feel like an idiot because I think my neighbors feel like my vehicle is unreliable because I check the oil frequently, leaks etc ‍‍‍♂️

The Fumoto comes with a blue "OEM style" crush washer.

I put that on 110,000 miles ago and have had zero issues with it.

I say you go with whatever the Stahlbus comes with and monitor for a bit.

Used the one that came with it, with zero issues to date.

Why change the washer, the idea is to not have to take anything off, just open the drain then close when done.

whichever one, put it on and leave it. I don't see any reason to change the washer unless you remove the valve for some reason

Isn't the purpose of the Stahlbus NOT having to remove it and change the washer? Another vote for using what comes with it, and forget it.

If you feel you must replace the washer periodically, just leave the oem drain in.

Crush washers with longer change intervals elsewhere in the vehicle (transmission, T-case, diffs, rear brake hoses, etc.) are all metallic. Use either the included washer or Dorman 65271.

I’m sure both will do. The Fumoto washer, the blue Toyota washer, other metal ones will all do so whatever the valve comes with I’m sure will fit the bill.

It just needs to seal once at installation and then forget it. (of course a quick check at oil change time just in case)
