Has anyone here installed either the Spyder Signature or Apex headlights and willing to share their experience? They're quite a bit cheaper than some of the others (Morimoto, Alpharex etc) and Spyder makes a ton of headlights and tail lights but curious about the light output and whether there's been any issues. Generally speaking, Spyder headlights are pretty bad. Once again, the old saying that "You get what you pay for" plays out. Don't waste your money on them.

I agree with @Too Stroked . There's going to be a compromise somewhere at that price point.

I see Diode Dynamics has headlights for the 5th gen, as well. I'd definitely check those out if I was in the market for aftermarket headlights.

Diode Dynamics is a distributor for Form Lighting but they do not use the same build components and are not assembled here in MO like most other DD products. I would say they perform similarly to Morimotos from what I’ve seen and read.

    Junk.

look for a set of OEM LEDs or go with the Morimottos if you like the style.

Spyder lights are garbage across the board. I currently have Alpharex MK2 Nova but will be ditching for Morimoto XB Evo lights. The Alphas have too much spill over the cuttoff and I already have a failed high beam out of the box but they are super bright. I will be selling them.

    Welcome
I had some spyder lights on my Titan before. My personal experience was not good. They leaked water into them and on side the bulb actually melted the housing inside.
The leaking thing is one thing..........put sealant on it. But the melting thing was unfixable.

    But that's my experience.

    lift, wheels, tires, stuff.....
I've had Alpha Rex Headlights in my 5th gen. They were pretty awesome. I too wonder about the cheaper end of things, but i won't sacrifice quality in my viewing pleasure.

    Good info, thank you!

I have never considered aftermarket headlights. But, now that I have cheapo aftermarket headlights thanks to those cheapskates at Progressive, I would actually be open to the idea. I did consider looking for OEM take-offs, also.

Would you consider the Form lighting option a worthy replacement?

with headlights, I say just go with OEM take offs unless one feels adventurous enough to try Morimotos, everything else seems to be "eh" at best, dangerously bad on average.

Speaking as one who is a big fan of Diode Dynamics and has a ton of their products on my T4R, I cannot recommend the Form products. Quite simply, they're a lower priced alternative for price conscious shoppers. That said, their quality and performance just isn't as good as the true DD products.

I too would recommend OEM takeoffs if you cannot afford new OEM lights.

Thanks for the responses everyone, sounds like Spyders are trash. The main reason I'm looking to switch is for a more blacked out housing and ideally a nice looking LED strip which is why I'm not really looking at OEM takeoff. I don't care for sequential turn signals and other stuff like that. Saw a comparison test video on Youtube that showed the AlphaRex as having poor beam focus and light scatter but the Morimotos performed solid so I guess I'll save up for a pair of Morimoto.

From my experience, the Morimoto XB Evos I've used actually matches and exceeds the OEM Bi-Led (low and high). The Evo's Low beams are sharp and bright, with a much better coverage for the high beams.

@Thatbassguy +1 if you can find some OEM Bi-Led takeoffs (low and high led). You can find wiring harness adapters that will make them work. I'd sell you mine but i want to keep it if I sell the truck down the line.

Edit: just saw you're not interested in the OEMs. But I can definitely vouch for the Morimotos!

I would consider the OEM's. I even considered looking for OEM takeoffs of the old halogen style ones, as the aftermarket replacements that were installed after hitting a deer in 2023 are already peeling. Not sure what they're going to look like in a year or two.

people don't give enough credit to the research and effort OEM lights get to stay somewhat clear in direct sun exposure for as long as they do. A lot of aftermarket makers don't give a hoot how long it stays clear, by the time you want to use the "life time guarantee" the maker in China already closed shop and operating under a different name.

I hope people realize even Morimoto is out of China too, a lot of Chinese concerns use Japanese sounding names to present an image.

100% agree, especially the part about using Japanese sounding names too. I will say though Morimoto being based in the US is a big plus. I had to warranty my XB Evos and I got my replacements in a week and communication was clear and efficient. Sometimes companies will have to process warranty claims from Chinese warehouses and that's a much longer process.

After 20+ years of modding vehicles of various makes I've learned that unless your buying OEM headlights or ones made by the OEM manufacturer, aftermarket headlights are crap no matter how great they look.

For example back in the day for European cars you could buy headlights made by Hella who were making the OEM parts for VW/Audi anyways, for a lot less that the ones that came from the dealership parts counter.

As mentioned above for the 4Runner you're better off buying takeoffs from some who has "upgraded" their stock 2021+ OEM LED headlights.
