I have a 2020 silver 4Runner and noticed brown spots appearing in the clear coat. Has anyone else had this issue? I have the platinum extended warranty but not seeing that it would be covered. My runner was bought brand new and currently has 32,000 miles on it. Any thoughts is greatly appreciated. I do plan on calling Toyota but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. TIA

Have you ever used a clay bar (when washing) to deep clean the clear coat? This removes contaminates that end up deposited on the finish. It also removes the wax so you do need to wax after using a clay bar.

you may have some sort of film delamination of the base coat (hard to be exact with the pics and no microscopic images to look at). So rust is beginning to bubble up from the silver and your seeing it as a brown spot in the clear. If cleaning the clear with a clay bar does nothing than its your base silver coat which is failing. Likely the conversion coating at the paint shop was done improperly and or there are problems with the environmental garbage low-no VOC coatings they use now a days. I would see about warranty or filing a claim. In a few years you will have perforation.

Have you tried a fallout cleaner? It removes iron contamination from paint surfaces which are usually most visible on light colored paint surfaces.

I have not tried a clay bar or a fallout cleaner. I may try that. I def don’t need it rusting. thank everyone for your responses. Greatly appreciated.

One test you can do is a non destructive holiday type testing. This involves using a holiday detector that essentially puts a small electrical charge through a wet sponge being moved across the coating surface, if you have film failure via pinholing the detector will beep. Some coatings shop have these on hand.

Bought my new '24 silver Limited 4R in April '24, I had the same spots on the roof and lower hatch. Went to detail shop and he called it "rail rust" (contamination in transit). He did a decontamination/prep and did an Icon paint coating. I've had two new trucks with ceramic coating lasting about 2 years with maintenance in the past, figured I try the Icon. As far as wash's and wax's the Ph of the product is important. Happy so far. Good luck.
