Searched but couldn't find this so here goes. My speedometer isn't working properly. Sometimes when I start the car it will work. Other times it registers 0 for a while then decides to work. Other times it jumps around either flipping up from zero or bouncing down from whatever speed I'm going. Usually if I ignore it it eventually settles down and works. Sometimes shutting off and restarting the car will help. This just started recently, possibly just a progression of the other electrical issues (my haunted radio, as mentioned in my exorcism post).

I'll try to attach a video where the needle started out working then started dipping, finally going to zero for a bit then started bouncing around again.

It is one of 3 things. If you have a cable, it probably needs to be lubed. Mine is electronic controlled and did that and it turned out to be the actual speedometer. There is a sensor that it could be too if it is electronic controlled. So you need to figure out which type you have.

It's a 1993 3.0L automatic, I understand that it could be either. I'll have to figure out where to look when I get back next month. Last month when I was there in was simply too cold to work on the car!

The odometer and fuel gauge and the rest of it seems to work just fine, if that helps at all.

Do you have transmission issues along with speedometer being erratic. I have. 1994, that will have a similar issue once the car has been running for 5 or 10 minutes. One the speedometer starts acting up, the transmission starts either slipping or feels like it is hunting for the right gear. Did you ever fix this problem?
