What's up 4Runner Peeps. New to the forum. As you all know the sound system sucks, looking to spend around 600-800 on new speakers and amp. What would you guys recommend? - Thanks in advance.

    None.
I went to crutchfield for my stuff. JL Audio component system and I ordered mounts and harnesses through taco tunes.

I went with the Alpine plug and play sub/amp (would blow your budget) and infinity kappa's and the JL audio upgrade in the dash. Probably should have went with polks, but it sounds good. You can gut you old speakers for mounting, but the taco tunes are the way to go. Metra or taco tunes for connectors.

I'm not looking for a sub, just a decent interior speaker upgrade. I don't know a lot about matching speakers and amps. Do I need a 6 channel amp or can I connect the 4 rear speakers to the same channels on a 4-ch amp?

Subwoofer doesn't necessarily mean ass shaking bass. A sub in the back and a tweeter upgrade goes a long way to filling out the sound.

Look at taco tunes for some ideas and go from there. Everyone has different needs/taste, but it's a good start point for info.

I replaced the front door and dash speakers with JL C1-690's and that alone has been a significant improvement.

Unfortunately, a worthwhile replacement for the deck will probably blow most of your budget.

A speaker upgrade is your best bang for the buck. When looking at speakers, compare the efficiency rating (usually SPL @ 1watt/1meter). The higher the efficiency, the more you'll get out of the stock deck.

Not looking to replace the headunit right now. When I do, I'll get the T9 or T10 if it's out. Did you put an amp in along with he JL's? Never mind, I thought the JL's were speakers, I just saw that it's a deck.

    They are speakers

The JL's are 6×9 component speakers.

I'm running off the stock head unit (deck) and it's much better than the stock speakers. Not much louder, but better bass and clarity.

If I wanted to replace the 6 door speakers and get an amp, does anyone know if I need a 6 channel or could I do a 4 channel and hook the rear speakers to the 3rd and 4th channels on the amp?

I would buy a body trim removal kit so you don’t scrape the speaker covers or the dash. All you need is a 10 mm socket to install them.

If i recall correctly, using factory wiring the dash and front doors are together and the back and hatch are together.

I’m running the focals up front which are plug and play and cheaper power bass ones for the rear doors and hatch. JL amp running them with an audio control LCQ-1. Sounds phenomenal.

I also bought the factory sub box and upgraded to a JL 8w3 but sounded amazing without that

Are we talking replacing the jbl speaker system or just the lower trim stereo systems?

Do you have a 4 channel amp with the 4 rear speaks off the last 2 channels?

I have one channel to each of the fronts and the last two channels to the rear doors and hatch. You only need a 4 channel amp.

The focals are $349 for the pair for the fronts. The power bass I bought are $99 a pair. There’s $549. That’ll give you $250ish towards an amp.

Here’s a pretty darn good choice for an amp. Then look into a nice line out converter. That way you keep the factory head unit.

Picked these up for under $200 today. The amp to go with them is $220 but was not in stock. I'll install myself. Whole thing should be under $550 with install kit. I'm installing the speakers this weekend and hope to do the amp in a couple of weeks.

I'll repost when everything is in and let you know what I think.
