TRD Pro rims w/265/70-17 Toyo OC AT3s
Pulled the trigger on a new '24 Limited in Classic Silver yesterday. More pics to come...

As first orders of business, I will be scraping together my last few remaining shekels after buying this thing to do the following (in order):

    1. SunTek PPF - on the front clip/fenders, side mirrors, door handle recesses, and top section of rear bumper
    2. Ceramic coating - this may depend on the quote I get back
    3. Frame/undercarriage rust preventative (Wool Wax, etc.) - I need to read up on best option and who nearby my area of central NJ does it.
    4. 17" TRD Pro rims in matte black - from my reading anyway, it **sounds** as though these should fit fine with a stock size mild A/T tires (will likely pick these up from BAM Auto)
    5. BFG KO2's vs Falken WildTrack A/T4W in stock 265/70-17 size - I've had good luck with the KO2's in the past on other vehicles, but like the appearance and your guys' positive feedback about the Falkens....just wondering if their tread pattern will be too noisy and maybe a little overkill for a **mostly** highway vehicle.
    6. Replace stock running boards - won't need any rock rails...I'm only looking for some that stick out a little further...mostly for door protection from all the jerks out there that don't care.
    7. 2"/1" Cornfed Lift for X-REAS - this may or may not be expedited based upon how much I like or dislike how the TRD Pro rims and A/T tires sit in the wheel wells
Definitely open to advice/feedback on my loose game plan above. Also a huge thank you to all the board members whom have answered all my noob questions....

    Thanks,
    Tim G

Congrats. I'll be curious what running boards you pick

To my taste the stock TRD ORP wheels look better on a silver 4Runner. Of cause the wider and better offset TRD ORP wheels are superior in functionality. Also have better protection to valve stem. Also to remember you need 5 tires and 5 wheels since your 4runner is equipped with matching 5 wheels and tires unlike other trims have 4 matching wheels and 1 steel wheel as spare.

BFG KO3 is the improved version from KO2. Take time and there are other good tires as well as shared by members here in tire threads.

If you are running stock size tires maybe just adding a small 1/2 in or 3/4in spacer might give a better look. But try putting some miles with stock XREAS. Me personally really love the comfort of stock XREAS over any suspension I tried.

    Thanks kmeeg-

Appreciate all the feedback. Re: the rims, I don't dislike the silver ORP rims...but on a silver 4R...oof....that's a LOT of silver IMO. Now if I could find a set someone previously powder coated black, that would be a slam dunk. As for the TRD Pro rims, are you saying that between their being 1/2" narrower and their offset, they will be tucked further into the wheel wells than the ORP rims? I guess I need to look at the width and offset of my current 20" rims to get a sense of how "tucked in" they would look.

As for waiting for the BFG KO3's, I read they're supposed to come out sometime in May, but it also sounded like they are only releasing certain sizes--the details of which we're not provided. I guess maybe I'll wait and see...

    Thanks again...

Do you hate the 20s? If its truly mostly highway, Wildpeak AT Trails have a little more beef than stock but still only 40lbs and wouldnt require new wheels.

Eh....hate is a strong word...I just think they're too much silver, and wouldn't mind shedding some of the 70+ lbs I'm told that each tire/rim represents by downsizing to a 17" rim and 265/70 rubber.

I plan on selling my stock 20's and tires as a package deal but also need to find out how much new TPMS sensors will run me on whatever new rims I end up with.

    Thanks,
    TimG

@TimGinCentralNJ Understand, and I dont know the total wheel/tire weight on a Limited. Just thinking if you have budget concerns there are options. You can get a set of vinyl decals for $40

Since 245/60R20 have very limited amount of tires available I'm picking Toyo OC AT3 for this comparison. Weight difference is pretty high imo

We're on similar paths! I recently got my 2024 Limited (Barcelona Red) and am doing some of the same improvements. A couple of suggestions:

    • - Consider the FN Wheels take on the TRD Pro wheels. 17" x 8", 0mm offset. 24 pounds. I just got mine in - black matte, they're beautiful - and can't wait to get them mounted (I'm also going with the stock size 265/70-R17s, in my case Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/Ts). https://www.fnwheels.com/store/product/fn-wheels-fx-pro/
    • - Instead of replacing the stock running boards just replace the mounting brackets with these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005M3A816 - they bring the boards out an inch and lower them a bit as well. At $118 it's a lot less than a new set. I put mine in yesterday, totally happy with them.

Thanks TOG- those rims look interesting; what do we know about their construction (material and how they're cast), durability and reputation? I tend to shy away from aftermarket rims unless they're a big brand name (think BBS, Einkei, etc.) which is why I was thinking OE was the safest bet.

As for the running board extenders.....good call!

    Thanks,
    TimG

Any pictures of your trdpro wheels?

I just got a silver LE last week and want to change to 17” wheels. I kinda never really liked the 20” wheels but in person I kinda think they look good but still prefer 17” wheel and more rubber for soft ride. Im looking to do 255/75r17 Cooper AT

Deciding between silver ORP vs black TRD wheels.

I bought a cheap set of TRD pro wheels a month ago off facebook so probably will go with those im guessing

for some reason I was under impression TRD wheels weighed less than ORP wheels

Your avatar pic is small but the black TRD wheels seem to look good on your LE.

    Hey Klinsman-

I'm with you; I didn't hate the stock 20" LE rims, but with the stock tires...they just made the tires/rim combo look anemic on my 4R. I have seen other members running larger tires on th 20" rims which looked pretty good....however, I do know they're heavy as hell to begin with, and adding a bigger tire just adds to that. Also, going with 20" all-terrain tires in any size that would fit in the wheel wells severely limits your tire options.

Here's a larger pic for you.

    Cheers!
