Does the front license plate holder for the 2016 snap on or do they drill holes in the front plastic bumper?

Thanks. I asked them not to do that to mine when it arrives from the port. Not gonna lose sleep over it, but prefer it naked.

The bumper comes undrilled from the factory. Toyota sends a bracket with the vehicle and is used for attaching the license plate to the bumper. The bracket mounts to the bumper (drilled) and then the license plate mounts to that. I also asked the dealership not to drill which they agreed to.

Mine came undrilled, I had to drill them to install my front plate. I envy the single plate states :)

After pulling the license plate bracket I found they somewhat missed the hole on the left side and tried again. There are two factory dimple guides which they should hit during drilling. This will allow the license bracket screws to seat into a threaded grommet in the internal surface of the valance. Ended up they missed the grommet entirely. I tried the bumper plugs but the angle of the receiving holes was not square and thus the plugs would not seat "pretty"....

After discussing with the dealership, they were nice enough to replace the valance for me.....so decided to go black instead of silver. Looks much better.

You local hardware store carries knock down furniture plastic push in plugs which cost under a quarter each they come in black white tan and are paintable to you vehicles color you may need to smooth holes with drill bit, ,worked well for me plus my super bull bar covers those for the most part and comes with licence plate relocator brackets and off road spot light tabs hoped this post helps

The blacks cool but I think the silver makes the trail more distinctive than the other 4runner models. And if you put a super bull bar You forget the add on balance is even their.

I usually like all blacked out but surprisingly both look good. Black wins out for me though, looks real clean.

Is there a version of this where that looks decent? Because that looks absolutely terrible.

Same, and whatever service guy did it missed the pre-dented marks to drill into on the left side, so my license plate was crooked. I had to re-drill the hole myself because they weren't going to fix it.

If the 4runner had a tow hook like my bimmer, it could look like this..... a3ce3000e679078a9a4e241eb2ecc8da_7589cac0f32afa3f661d31e51a303f97a29fb0f7.jpg

Don't hate it worked for me. I challenge you to improve it. Thank God in Carolina we only require one plate.

I'm getting a new 4R in a couple of weeks and would like to adopt your method of mounting the front plate using a Piano Hinge - I assume it's stainless? Where did you purchase it - Anyone else done this with a 4R? I am assuming you are using existing bolts on the 4R - Do you recall the mounting centers for them...I'd like to have this pre-drilled for the dealer to install. You can email me direct at k7cr@blarg.net - Thanks, Clay

Yes it is stainless. I bought it at Lowes. I drilled to match the Tacoma hole pattern. I decided not to mount it to my 4Runner for now but may in the future. Pretty easy mod.

Thanks, do you see a down-side to mounting it that way on a Runner ? Would like to consider it before they drill holes in the bumper. Of course, any serious off-roading could make a mess of it. - Clay

Other than it being low I don't. Since on a hinge it should survive. I need to revisit to see if I can get my Georgia tag on the front, it's sorta plain at the moment.
