I'm getting the LCE Street Header (4113) installed on my 1987. I wonder if wrapping the header is worth it?

If it gets that hot to cook stuff it’s running to hot/lean. Depends on if you did the supporting mods. Like bigger injectors, tune, <fuel pressure maybe?

Then it will run cool as a cucumber. I went through this exhaust upgrading stage with my Z28....I have stock exhaust on my Runner and I love it...

No mods. Only had it about a year and have only done a tune-up. Exhaust system was roached, so got LCE headers and catalytic converter and having local exhaust shop do rest of the exhaust system from engine to tailpipe.

Goal for the vehicle is simply LONGEVITY! I like the thought of cooler engine bay, but I'd guess the more restrictive exhaust manifold gets hotter than the larger header. Right?
On the other hand, while the header is sitting on the bench, is it a good idea to get it wrapped? Will wrap hold water and header will rust out faster?

    Cats are good...:)
Shouldn’t get wet, I wrapped mine for awhile. Are they stainless or a thin steel?

    Googled my answer:

Despite improving performance, wrapped headers have a few weaknesses. First, because the heat is retained inside the wrap, the metal gets much hotter than painted or coated headers. The higher heat cycles will fatigue the metal. The wrap will also hold moisture, promoting rust and corrosion.

Goes against the goal - LONGEVITY! So I'm NOT going to wrap the headers.

LCE header, 2.5 inch exhaust, 31x 10.50 BF Goodrich, 15 X 8 aluminum wheels, Bilstein Shocks, 3 inch lift kit, 3M fender flares
I had a 1964 Chevelle with the old hooker headers and wrapping them just caused them to over heat and burn up...I do have an LCE header with 2 inch exhaust on my 1985 Toyota 4 Runner and it is an Awesome set up...in my opinion...don't wrap your LCE header!!! My header is well over 5 years old and going strong...not to mention it runs Great!!!
