I’m shocked to see how many 4Runners and Tacomas are in the Big Island of Hawaii. Everywhere you look there is an handful of them. Even the cop cars are 4Runners!

    Oooh look, another mod.....
You should play a drinking game: Everytime you see a 4Runner or Tacoma, drink!

....you'll be wasted 24/7 and probably turn into an alcoholic in no time.

Its not just the Big Island. Its all the islands.

Every parking lot looks like a dealer lot.

low profile tires on a 4runner look even goofier than I thought it would

edit to add: HI is basically a Japanese colony, so no real surprise to see a lot of Japanese cars.

Don't forget we are also home to the excessively lifted 2WD with rubber band tires and chrome rims pavement princess Toyota Club.

It’s the same where I live. See both everywhere. At least fuel mileage wouldn’t be as critical on a small island.

I was pretty crazy seeing all the 4Runners and Tacomas there. I don’t see very many 4Runners in my travels here in MA.

Pretty well known they're popular out there. Parts availability sucks and is expensive there so they buy the most reliable thing they have. We don't claim the monster wheels on rubber band tires people.

Having seen the rain in Hawaii I would not want a convertible anything unless it's a 2nd car that's garaged when not driven.

Not hard to understand if you imagine those as Brodozers for tight parking lots.

Why is that? Because they are easier to break into? I couldn’t believe how much broken car window glass was in all the parking spots I went to there.

I stare at 4Runner racks. It's weird but mine does not have it, so anytime I see a nice rack I stare.

    I can't speak for everyone.

But convertibles are gay. We see the island daily. No need to be taking pics/video while we drive.

I can't name on person born and raised here that would drive either. There is transplants that do.

So you all drive the same exact two vehicle models instead? That’s original.

My friend lives on the Big Island. We go Ulua fishing to some pretty remote places. Clearance is needed to get down some of those gnarly roads through the lava.

Full electric vehicles are nonexistent here in the big island, I’ve been here for 2 weeks and we have only seen about 3 Teslas and 1 Rivian truck.

That's interesting, one would think islands that are fairly small in grand scheme of things would be swimming in EVs.

I just realized that Hawaii has not adopted CARB standards. TIL.

I've always wondered about tires that can handle driving over the lava. Looks like it could really shred tires. The different colors of lava from brown to black I think have to do with how old it is. The colors and textures from crazy rough to smooth as glass are crazy.

Everyone should have Hawaii on their bucket list to visit. It really is paradise. Helicopter tour was great way to see the whole island. Flying the coast lines and hovering over volcano was bad ass. A very different vibe going from different sides of island Hilo to Kona.

    Try some poke and poi!
