I'm thinking of selling my 2019 Tacoma OR and dropping the money on building a 3rd Gen 4Runner. My only concerns are finding one with somewhat low miles and finding good sites/shops for parts. I wanted to see if y'all had any good advice. I'm currently located in WA. I'm pretty active on TW so I know this form will help. This is not a for sale post, just need advice before I dive deep into this. Thanks

All those concerns are something I would really be concerned about you would be going from a less than 2 year old rig to a 20 year old rig.

Things to consider "Low" miles what is that going to be for a 20 plus year old Toyota? 100,000 is that low?
Parts? yeah they are available however you may struggle with finding some items
Is this going to be your every day "I got to depend on it" daily driver or you have a good solid back up every day driver? if it going to be every day stash a pile of parts....
It won't be a inexpensive move if not very careful because previous owner did not really do proper maintenance on it So you best hope that you are a well versed mechanic with a real tool box full of tools..
The list could go on and on But I am not saying no to such a move just trying to say that it is not a move to make without considering the "what if" that could result in rig down time.

if by parts you mean aftermarket support, then yes, there is a lot of that out there for the third gen.

I would not personally do what you are considering unless the 4runner will just be a toy. it costs just as much to build a third gen as it does a brand new 5th gen or your tacoma. you are going to have a lot of $ into it, and even if you find a nice low mile one, I'd be concerned with rust and maintenance costs over time.

I've been casually looking for a really clean 3rd gen for a while, and they are big bucks now. not many around (I'm north of you in BC)

I'd sell your tacoma, lease a brand new 5th gen runner and build it with the cash from the sale. I bet if you keep it 10 years, the total cost of ownership between the 3rg and 5th gen would be pretty close.

Welcome to the forum. I traded in my 3rd gen Tacoma for a 5th gen 4Runner.
