My wife noticed yesterday that the ding for her seat belt was going off even though the seat belt was fastened. She tried unclicking the seat belt and tried plugged it in again, no change. Ding was still going off. Seatbelt light was lit on dash entire time. Also, suddenly the passenger airbag light was set to off.
The only electronic changes we have done to the truck are the Carista (never changed seat belt ding bc she likes the security). Just used the dongle to change other settings. Also installed a 12Volt Solutions remote start. This is plug and play so no wires were touched.
I drove the truck an hour ago and experienced the same thing my wife did. I even put the seat belt in before starting the truck, and no change.
Should I look into this or just see the dealer in the morning (8 miles away)?
Thanks for your help & time reading this,
    Ryan

I wonder. Because I don't know. Would the system reboot if you disconnected the battery?

    *To note*
This did occur out of nowhere. It was almost 2yrs with the Carista and a few months with the remote start.
I think the battery is a good place to start. Fingers crossed,

Good call! Definitely worth a shot.

Remember to leave it disconnected for a bit. I'm not sure what the actual time needed is.

I have accelerated the process on my older 4Runner by touching the terminals together AFTER they're both removed from the battery, but I don't know if that is safe on newer vehicles.

    Ooh, that makes sense, too!

Would both of them go "out" @ the same time? Seems odd...
Yes, the passenger side airbag would turn off with a "semi" heavy weight (work bag, purse, laptop etc).
Now the passenger side airbag is always off.
I think a battery (computer reset) is in order..

I will do the battery reset. I have heard to leave it off for a while I will also pump the brakes a few times to discharge any energy in the system.
I hope it isn't the seat sensors. However that doesn't account for the drivers seat not recognizing the harness.
Hopefully the battery reset will fix it; otherwise it goes to the dealer.
    Thanks,
    Ryan.

This happened to me as well, but the cause was an energy drink fell under the passenger seat and blew up spraying all the electronics down there.

Well, the battery reset didn't work.
It has to go to the dealership. Grrrrr
The "service required soon" light is on in the center console when you start the vehicle and none of my set maintenance items are due... Something is off.
    10:15am tomorrow it goes in.
Our first service experience @ 2yrs (almost to the date of purchase) and 9,800 miles on her.

Never hear this anymore, but when I was a kid this was common speak about automobiles. The first to go wrong/happen with a new car is the worst thing you'll experience during ownership. Hardly ever true but optimistic all the same.

Keep us posted and we hope whatever it is, it's minor.

If something is in the seat thats close to 40 lbs (i think thats the weight) or can bounce over bumps to produce that it may set off the passenger front seat sensor. I have had my camera pelican box set off the passneger weight sensor it can weight quite alot fully loaded.

what year? go in srs module read data for buckle. You should see it unbuckle /buckle. That would define the problems.

2019. I have no equipment to access to the SRS system. Does it store data?

After 4 hrs of a spring cleaning (Xpel cannot be washed in a car wash) of the interior & exterior I found that the problem had disappeared! I can now put my work bag on the passenger seat & the "airbag light off" portion illuminates put it on the floor & it goes away. The drivers side now recognizes the seatbelt (with no more dinging). I am at a complete loss & in need of some guidance!
    @RUBICON4RUNNER
I need your help here. The symptoms seem to have just gone away. I have an appointment for service @ 10:15 am (who do I ask for in service?). If the problems are no longer present; can a history be pulled like a check engine light?
Sorry if I don't make sense as I am lost,
    Ryan

If the problem disappeared can it retrieve that data? I asked RUBICON because he is a Toyota dealer & may have some insight. It is nothing against anyone.
    Airbags and seatbelts are important!
    Thanks,
    Ryan.

Well, wouldn't you know it. As I stated the problem went away on its own.
Got to the dealership and they wanted to change the oil etc. I said that is not why I am here. He had in his notes about the seatbelt but was going to change our oil anyway. I asked for someone to just check for codes & see if anything was stored.
Obviously they found nothing (as I assumed).
When I was called to leave I was told nothing was found & they don't know what it was.
I got into the truck, started it & "service required soon" in center console was on. I was in the exit bay but had someone look @ it. "That comes on every 6 months or xxxxx amount of miles." I said "I have never seen that unless one of my presets is getting close."
They didn't want to help me (or show me) how to clear it. Then the initial person (mid 20's male) I had met with comes over & takes over (from an older male who appeared higher up). Says this is how you reset that; hold trip A cycle the key & it clears the maintenance reminder! You could feel the tension.
Oh yeah, the younger gentleman asked if I wanted an oil change. I said "No thanks, I have a shop & all necessary tools." He said "yeah, I do mine myself also". The older gentleman asked why I hadn't used my free oil changes. He then explained that they were free (wow, I didn't know!) & I must be paying a lot for oil. Again; "If you want to pay for it!" Some people...
I just said thanks & left.
    Sorry for the rant.
    Ryan.

    *Side note*
    I HATE bulk oil. I use Mobile 1 & a Toyota filter.
Have you ever seen a bulk oil container get cleaned? They really can't be...

You missed your opportunity you should of told (the older person) you don't do the free changes there because their service sucks! I'd of said you want me to do oil here and you can't even take the time to make the light go out for me?

Ryan, just a thought and something you may want to consider. Should it happen again and an unlikely accident was to happen during the malfunction. The black box likely won't distinguish the difference between a system malfunction and/or seatbelts not in use code. I know it's a very low probability, but in the world we live in the legal ramifications should the scenario happen, are worthy of consideration. Not a worry wart - just thinking out loud.

Edit: Thought. Should it happen again. Take photo's and if possible take it to the dealer while it's occurring.

Have you tried clearing codes on hidden menu?
Turn truck on then switch headlights on/off 3X quickly
Press n hold audio button (hidden menu will pop up)
If there's a code it should show there in one of the files
    Try clearing memory

This applies to Nissan as I know. Does Toyota work? I will try it when I got a chance for testing purposes.

Thanks to all. I greatly appreciate your time. Of course my wife just took the 4Runner to the dentist & I am off to my shop for a while.
@ruiz4251 - I will try this & take a picture if I see any codes.
