I’m sure this subject has come up. I’m sorry for repeating it, but could someone recommend a fairly inexpensive SCAN TOOL that will read my live data transmission temperature for 5th generation 2019 Trd pro
I want to change the fluid, but I don’t trust jumping the OBDll module. The Drive indicator came up but I left the car running to see how long it would take for it to start flashing to tell you that it’s too hot to drain and after 33 minutes it never flashed so I’m not confident in that method.
    Thank you in advance,
    Joe

Guess it depends on definition of inexpensive. You could get a wireless OBDII dongle from Amazon and use an app on your phone $20-$150(will vary depending on Android vs iOS). Or get a scan tool(Autel, Otofix, Topdon, Xtool, Launch) that will run you $300-$400.

I chose the scangaugeII. It works well for long term monitoring of systems. But they are kind of a pain to program.

There are certainly better options if you only need to monitor trans temp during transmission fluid changes once every 50-100k miles

I got an X-Tool D7 on a lightning deal on Ama zon. TCCN recommended it.

    +1.
Absolutely love it for been such a small device + 4 parameters per page.
Scanguage was by far reliable than the bluetooth plugin scanner thing I had in the past.

Wasn't hard for me to enter 2 codes for the temp at transmission pan and torque converter. Other parameters already there.

For those who need 9 parameters (I think 9) the Scanguage 3 is available.

I also have a $30 Autel scanner that I use to help my friends with scanning codes. It also have live data but not remember what parameters it has.

Scan gauge II is good for long term monitoring. But there are probably easier solutions if you just need the transmission temp once every transmission fluid service.

I’ve noticed my trans gets pretty hot in the summer in Texas. 34s and 450# of armor doesn’t help. Been considering a trans cooler…

I did use the jumper method and it did take 20-25 minutes for the temp to get too high from when fluid got fill temp. Ambient temp probably matters, but I had plenty of time to perform the fill / till stand pipe started draining. Like you I tested the jumper method 1st without filling so I could be comfortable there was adequate time.

Indeed...scangauge is the tool. I use it meticulously for transmission temps trends. I have been averaging 218 to 220F on a 8hr trip.
