    Hi All!

    good to be on here!

I’m new to the Toyota forum, need some guidance from the pro’s.
How do you start to fix this massive issue? Where do I start?

ANY advice or help is appreciated.
Also if anyone knows of someone parting out a blue 4Runner that obviously would help too

What do you mean by “fix”?

(Find a less damaged body and drop that on? It’s going to be a massive pile of cash or a ridiculous DIY project probably on the scale of the stretched Previa if not worse)

    Welcome!

    Body shop.

That looks like it will cost more to repair than it would be to buy another 4Runner.

There's a reason it has a salvage title.

I really just need the car to be driveable,
I put my dogs in the back or hauling large items, essentially so I try and pull the crumple zone or cut the section off another 4Runner?

With a Unibody car this would be the way.

But honestly the body on frame construction may be a benefit to you here. A body swap is a big job, but it's probably the best repair method for this type of damage (assuming the frame is not bent)

I'd say the body is trashed... Looks like the roof is no longer straight. Getting everything straight enough to accept new doors and a new hatch would be nearly impossible without taking it to a body shop and dumping big money.

If this was my rig, I'd be looking at junkyards for a new body. It would be a big job so I'd need something else to drive in the meantime...
Like @Thatbassguy said, there's a reason it has a salvage title.

The problem is, you are going to have to cut the outer skin off, AND THEN pull the whole inner panel back straight, its gotta go up, back, outward, before you can get a new outer skin to align back up. This will take a good body man 40+ hours minimum because practically the whole interior has to come out to do all this. You're going to need a whole rear section, most likely the whole back half of the roof, a new rear door, both the side glass and back glass. Then all the alignment and upfit will take another 10+ hours. I suspect on a perfect day, you're looking at an $8000+ dollar fix to get it back right and lined up like its supposed to be and lined up so the drivers rear door and back hatch all open properly. This is not including paint, this is just labor, supplies, and parts.

Sell as is or part it out. That thing is done for. Start over.

One option is find another 4runner that needs engine work, then swap your good engine into that truck. Then part out the rest of this truck.

Damage extends to the roof and C-pillar. Not worth fixing, especially with an '06 that is susceptible to head gasket leaks. Sell as-is or part it out yourself if you have the storage space and tools.

I would not try to fix that but sell and buy other. Why?

1st I see rust on the tow hitch, pretty sure frame has rust too and in 1 or 2 years will have holes ( unless it already has )
2nd the obvious damage that will cost at least 10k if not more ( shops may even decline service because of rust )
3rd who knows what else is damaged.

Can you look under and show some frame pics?

Now if you are going thru financial crisis and dont have money, just fix the tailgate and thats it. Law requires working tailights as far as i know , it doesnt say anything about shattered window or deformed body itself.

This is similar to the damage that my 3rd gen suffered when I got rear ended by an Acura Integra. Insurance covered a full repair (this was back around 2005), frame was only moderately bent, put onto a frame stand and straightened, the rear drivers side was completely cut off and a new section (apparently at the time this is a piece that can be ordered) welded on. New hatch, taillight assembly and paint. Good as new and no salvage title.

So from my own personal experience I know this is a repairable job on your 4R.

Can’t say the same for the Integra, it looking like a massive boulder got dropped on the hood. Both front axles snapped and the engine was sitting on the ground.:D Driver was okay though which was the only good thing to come out of that wreck.

Do you have photos? It'd be interesting to compare the damage.

I honestly think OP's damage is likely worse than what happened to your 3rd Gen. You can see the entire roof doesn't even line up since the impact wasn't low. Hell, the rear bumper and most of the crumple zone are untouched... Reskinning the C pillar and quarter panel isn't possible without straightening the rest of the body. Maybe 10k at the body shop will get it fixed?... That's if OP can even find one that wants to take this on.

It's salvage man. Body swap it or part it out and scrap it.

What’s the process to get a salvage title vehicle registered where you live? Is it even possible? It may be better to sell it for a few thousand as a dedicated trail rig to someone that plans on chopping it up and putting a roll cage in it.

Unfortunately I do not have any photos but I’ll see if my insurance agent can call it up on the records. The only ‘recent’ photo that I have is this one taken in 2015, this is after the front deer impact and the rear ender.

    IMG_1152.jpg

Truthfully the damage seen in the OPs post is quite similar to what my 3rd Gen experienced.

That’s what I was thinking. I would keep the doors and front half of the roof though.

I know what you’re getting at but no, it was a stock Integra. Don’t ask me how in the heck it could have smacked so high up, what other detail I can say is that the impact was so severe it booted my and the 4R across a dbl sized intersection…a good 4 lanes in depth.

Post it on Craigslist and offer up. It will sell fast. Make sure your insurance claim is finalized before selling it. It looks clean. I would be looking for top dollar. Maybe $3k or more. The seats are worth money. The transmission, interior, whole front end bumper/headlights/grille, etc.

I used to part out 3rd gen 4runners. Would buy them crashed for $500 and sell all the parts for $3k+. You have a ton of nice and expensive parts on that truck.
