Sales figures by color

As we are coming to the end of production of the 5th Gen, I got to wondering what the most common colors are, vs the least common colors. I haven't been able to find anything on sales figures by color, and am wondering if anyone knows where to find this information?

 

Seeing that they sell all that they make, the sales figures don't reflect the most popular colors.

 

White will be #1.

 

True, but I am not looking for most/least popular, I am looking for most/least common.

It occurs to me that the final year(s) pro colors, which never had a chance to make it into other models will be the least common. It is just a matter of curiosity, really.

 

The most common colors are: White, Silver & Gray (MGM). It's probably followed by Black, Red, Blue and then the one off color like Solar Octane, Underground, etc...

I've found a spreadsheet that shows how many 4Runners the sell per year and per month, but I couldn't find anything about colors, trim levels or regions. I'm guessing Toyota doesn't want that info released.


Edit: I went to Cars.com and searched for new 4Runners nationwide. Then I filtered by color and this is what popped up:





Now, this is only what's currently available, but it seems to confirm what others have said.

1) White.
2) Black.
3) Grey.
4) Silver.

....then the one-off colors.

 

Or it completely discredits you, because everyone bought all the cool colors and that's all that's left

I agree with your breakdown, but I still want actual numbers!

 

Im not sure what the actual numbers are, but the coolest colors to me are Quicksand, Army Green and Vodoo Blue.

I ended up with boring @$$ white

 

Hard to tell what the actual number are, but, white definitely seems to be the dominant color for the '24s around here at least. Most of the 4Runners coming in to the local dealer have been Ice Cap White.

...Which includes me since the Solar Octane ORP I had been interested in was sold by the time I got there. *laughs* Ah well, Ice Cap is growing me. Especially after adding more black accents to it.

 

my thoughts exactly on the best 3 colors ever offered . I woulda chose any one of these if currently offered. I picked up black this year because underground was so scarce. I got tired of waiting

 

I like ice cap. I put a deposit on a lunar rock and on the night before picking her up, I called the dealer and changed to an ice cap they just got in. White keeps the rig cooler in the summer and I dig the anonymity of white as well.

 

Back when the Pros first came out, they were limited to approximately 1000 units per year.

Assuming that each year, there were three colors to pick from, one being the special color, that accounted for a third of sales, or about 300-400 4Runners.

That would mean the rarest colors would be those first few years of Pro special colors, Inferno, Quicksand, and so on until they made the Pro production unlimited. Toyota never stated that they changed from limited to unlimited production, but they removed the "fun fact" on their website that Pro production was limited a few years ago.

Based on purely unscientific observation, white or silver has to be the most common.

 

Toyota needs a new color - "raw steel"... so when the ridiculously thin paint chips, it won't be as noticeable. THAT would quickly become the top selling color.

 

Would that come with a different color paint on the frame "rust bucket"

I heard 100% were silver, more or less.

The best 4r colors will always be quicksand and cement. Just saying

 

I totally agree with you @hossler1788, as long as by "quicksand" and "cement", you mean silver.

 

I agree with both of you ice cap white takes the cake nothing looks better

 

Quicksand is sick, gotta give you that. But since I despise non-colors, gonna have to go with Barcelona red. Surprise surprise.

Anyway, this isn't a survey, I just want hard cold numbers on production and sales!!!

I disrespectfully disagree with you, sir! Errrrrrrybody knows that VooDoo is the best color. Just check out how bad-ass it looked on my Tacoma.

 

Well sir, I have to respectfully agree with your disrespectful disagreement. But honestly our similarities are a bit disconcerting... Your Tacoma looked almost as good in VDB as my FJ did!

 

I wish Quicksand were still available when I got mine. There's a great-looking Quicksand 4R Pro in my neighborhood with steel bumpers painted to match. Its only defect is having LE-style running boards instead of real sliders. That mud color would be perfect for my type of adventures.

 

Not sure about the color matched bumpers. Would need to see that to judge

 

When I fell love with the VooDoo color, I started shopping for an FJ in that color (the day after I bought my Taco in Feb 21). Everyone who had one that was for sale, knew what they had and tried to price gouge me. If I find the right one, I'm selling my SloRunna' and buying an FJ.

 

When the sales guy called back a few weeks later and said "Ok, I have one I can give you at your price" I bought it.

That I really like the color (cement) was just luck.

The match is so perfect that I probably saw it 20 times before realizing that the bumpers weren't stock.
