    Dear Toyota,

It's a truck so why not 'T' for truck, torque or towing? Pick your flavor.

With a max torque of 278 lb-foot of torque at 4,400 RPM it needs to be in 'T' when towing, climbing, or when the trans is otherwise hunting for any gear to be in, other than overdrive(5th).

    'S' is for Supras. :boink:

Ironic that I was just contemplating the same thing earlier today when coming into town and shifting into "S" mode. Sport? Really? I use "S" mode when coming into town, or when towing my UTV.

What else could "S" stand for?? Slowing? Slug? Standard? Sedated? Sport just doesn't seem to fit...

I look at it this way. ‘S’ is for Select.
I get to select the gear that I want to be in for a given condition.
It’s the closest thing to a manual trans that we’ll see from Toyota Corporate.

Too many mods and too much money
S-mode, I've noticed helps keep transmission temps down.
My 12' is a heavy pig and when climbing a steep grade I always jump into the right lane, drop it into 4th or lower and reduce my rpms. I can't remember for sure, but I think it locks out the OD and keeps the torque converter from working too hard. Before figuring this out (I'm a dummy), I noticed the trans temps creeping up over 230*. Scared the crap out of me. This is why Toyota recommends towing in S mode.

    That it is.

Middle of the night tongue in cheek. Meant to be in fun. Tho, it does remind me of the early Chevy 1/2 ton 6.2 diesels with the 700-R4 trans....if not used manually they hunted too.

Sorry to hijack the thread with this question, but what on earth is going on with Snickel Fritz? I missed the initial post where people were super concerned for him, and then I see Moon Landing quote him, only for the original message to be gone ...is this character OK?

His account currently shows inactive. Recently, he was having one hell of a time dealing with his health and trying to help his mother with a place to live...he could use some prayer, if you're one to do that, as it sounded like he was at his limit of dealing with stuff. I'm sure he probably has more important things on his mind than 4R banter.

:( Had no idea and wish he'd have reached out. Help is always just around the corner. But, you have to turn it.

I go to forums to take a five minute vacation from life. It really helps. It's not quite as good as giving my puppy belly rubs though.

I had a feeling something was wrong. I didn't realize he had health concerns/issues, as well as things going on with his mother. I can only imagine that can mess w/ your current state. I hope he finds healing and strength. Yes, I am one to do prayer, so I will ensure he's in it.

He did 'reach out', sort of, a while back. We got a couple of posts outlining to a point how he was dealing with trying to find a home for his older mom, deal with his own health issues and financial setbacks, but he wasn't asking for help, just sort of letting us know why he hadn't been around much. He mentioned that he might not be on the forum much, if at all, and didn't even know if he'd have a 4Runner for much longer. Then, the posts stopped, and as you can see, the account is inactive. I wish there was some way to help.

Prayer and a shoulder from our house to Snickel Fritz. Hoping his situation straightens out some. Been through this stuff too, it got better, but takes some time.
