.....RWD all that bad ?

Ok so most you know that I got my 4runner back in April '24.Im first 4runner and I was on a budget.but I think I got a great deal.its 2014 Limited(7 seater) with RWD @95K for $26K.i went to the mechanic for an oil change(new year new fluid lol)and they just couldn't believe it's a 2014 they all thought it's a 2020 or higher.last guy took real care of it.mechanic had to bust my chops by saying I should of gotten a 4WD.i told him I'm on a budget and secondly I'm not a off-roader and thirdly maintainence would cost less as I wont have to worry about front & rare differential,and I'll get more MPG.i also told him RWD on a 4runner can get me out of most snow conditions....as a first time 4runner I think I got myself a great deal at the dealer.....next time I'll go 2024 Limited 4WD coz I love the 5th Gen....what y'all think .

Oh and he suggested i get spark plugs changed...but the Limited runs like new...also guys I'm often told from members here and on YouTube that x-reas on my runner will start leaking at 80k to 100k.but now it's at 101,127 and there's been no leakage whatsoever.the undercarriage is dry as a bone.i always check for leakage whenever I drive out of a parking spot.thanks y'all and Happy New Year everyone.

 

Could a person get a rear diff locker mod / kit installed on a 2014 Limited? That would be of some help I would think?

 

How many New Yohk winters have you gone through in RWD?

I recently came across a 2WD 2014 FJ Cruiser for sale on FB Marketplace. In place of the 4WD shift lever on the center console, there's a large cubby. Those are are very rare.

 

As long as you think you got a good deal that's all that matters. And if it's in great condition that's a huge plus.

You could change the spark plugs since your at 100k miles. But if it's running great and getting good mpg then you could hold off. Yes some xreas systems start leaking but others don't and last. But if it starts leaking it's not the end if the world.

Hey. I’m not going to judge. If you don’t off road or encounter horrible snow, I think you made a good call. Honestly, 90% of the time mine is in 2wd. I do off road and we just got back from a two month off roading trip in 4 states. In Moab we did use it a lot but everywhere else 2 wd worked just fine.

 

If you need to drive in the snow much then getting a set of snow tires would be helpful.

 

If you’re satisfied, you’re satisfied.

You can get up to plenty with 2WD only! You still got a rear differential though!

 

4WD would only get you stuck worse farther off-road than 2WD...

 

I have a 2WD as I didn't need 4WD.

 

Running a locker on snow and ice is a recipe for spinning.

 

Good winter tires do more for on-road winter driving than 4WD.

For keeping your 4Runner in good order, make sure to oil spray (Krown, FluidFilm, etc.) the frame, taking care to get it treated inside the frame. They tend to rust badly when exposed to salt.

 

Limiteds are luxurious on-road oriented station wagons. That actually matches up fine with 2WD.

As long as you’re happy, enjoy the ride. Even 2WD’s have decent low-traction on-pavement nannies via the Star System, and you’d be surprised how well you can get around on a good set of snow tires.

 

you need to engage front wheels if you going off-road, or pulling boat up a ramp only.

 

Many 2wd pickup truck out there without major issues other than adding weight in the back during winter season.(drive accordingly to weather/road conditions) A very good set of winter tires will be the best thing to get, and enjoy your 4R.

 

Throw some Blizzaks on it and drive carefully. Enjoy your ride.

 

Been doing some research on Nokian tires. They’ve been around for 100 years. I think it’s a Swedish brand. People in Canada swear by them. They are known for their winter tires

 

I have the Nokian Hakkapeliitta SUV tires. They are the best snow tires I have run.

 

You must be very proud.

 

I'm one of several on here who grew up when there was only 98% RWD vehicles available. You just figured it out. Get stuck once or twice and learn what snow is too deep for your vehicle. You also learned the value of momentum. Sure, 4WD is better for challenging conditions. But if you have a vehicle that's RWD and you like it, just drive accordingly.
