I Have a couple spots of frame rot that i intend to get some welding on.

In my case its obvious all kinds of crud gets into the frame through all the holes on the sides of it, then the crap sits in there and does its dirty work, until you can stick a screwdriver through a rough looking low spot to watch all the sand and crap fall out.
I took a shopvac and hooked up a small hose and ran it through the sideholes to try to suck out alot of the sandy salty crap.

Guess my question is, does anyone pump their damn frame full of something to prevent this? Any products out there that could really get in there? I was shooting some blaster shield in the holes on the one side today, until my stupid red straw fell in and ended that venture. Seems in the winter that blocking off some of the biggest holes might be a good idea.

Woolwax (and probably others) sell wands to enable spraying inside the frame rails.

Run tons of water thru then get it fluid filmed, wool wax or surface shielded.

If you plan on chopping and welding the frame that'd be a good time to at least get all the crap out of there

I ran a bunch of water through it then used an air compressor to blow a bunch of crap out through the rusted area, got a couple peices welded on and going to give it a fluid film spray on the inside soon.

I am almost wondering if it would be better to block off some of the holes in the side of the frame for the winter to keep crud from being able to accumulate and sit in there.

^Yes, later year 5th gens have plastic plugs or tape over all the side-opening holes; and the frame rail internals are coated with cavity wax. Once you flush out the frame as best as you can, I suggest spraying Cosmoline or CRC Marine 06026 inside.

Very interesting that theyve plugged the holes, makes me feel better to do the same. Thanks for the info
